We booked a villa in inland Andalucia, (nearly an hour and a half north of Malaga) in search of the 'real' Spain and to be away from the bustling tourist crowds. We were not disappointed! Leaving the busy roads of Malaga we were soon driving swiftly (although not breaking the speed limit) on the mostly empty motorway that quickly reveals a stunning area of rolling countryside alternated with more dramatic and rugged mountainous views along with lakes (off the motorway) and dotted with quaint whitewashed villages. We stayed in a villa with private pool just outside the typically Spanish town (not an Irish bar or a full English breakfast in sight!) of Puente Genil, where the people were very friendly. We visited a variety of places, made easy by the excellent and well sign posted road systems in the region. The winding roads up to Ronda were exhillerating and well worth the trip to see this beautiful mountain top town along with its superb views and charming streets. We also enjoyed the market at Antequera, full of local Spanish people, with its wealth of fresh produce, bargain clothes and sweets galore (for the kids!) Overall Andalucia is one of the most beautiful areas of the world, with a rich variety of culture and colour.

A great location for visiting Cordoba, Seville and Granada....although we were so chilled we did not go to any, preferering to relax in the pool and chill at night with a G&T and a barbeque.

This is a beautiful area, with some of the most beautiful unspoilt towns. cordoba and saville being two of them,
a must for site seeing.
