Armacao de Pera is a nice resort. We went in August and it was very busy but very friendly and good for families. Alot of Portugese were holidaying there which I think keeps the prices down so not as expensive as expected, particularly with the Euro at the time. Lots of traditional restaurants with a few others such as Italian, Chinese and Indian thrown in. Lots of family friendly enterntainment in the evenings in the streets including bands on a small stage just by the beach with people dancing - very friendly and not 18-30! Beach was very busy in main part of town but much quieter towards the west where we were. The view is of a built up resort but you don't feel that in the cobbled streets of the town - most tall blocks are behind this. Would visit again and would recommend. I imagine it would be lovely just out of the peak season.

Our favourite destination, having visited over 50 times, mainly in March/April and September/October, so miss the busy holiday periods. Regarding restaurants, suggest looking out for 'touristic' menus - which include: cover charge (ie bread, butter & pate or cheese etc), offer a fair selection of starters, main & sweet courses, your choice of beverage, coffee & often a glass of port or brandy....all for 10 to 12 euros! With the 'shrinking £' it's a great way to economise, without going hungry!
Suggested restaurants: 'Balbino's' (near the indoor fruit & fish market); '2 for 1' (opposite the Rosamar apts); 'Ze Leteirio' (a local fish restaurant, just a few yards on the left, down a small lane opposite where the fishing boats are on the beach) but you'll need a good appetite, because Claudio keeps bringing you more & more fish (at no extra charge) until you say 'stop', with potatoes, salad, jug of wine etc., all for around 11 euros! If you are a good walker, or have transport, head west out of AdeP., (ie towards Porches) to the top of the hill, turn left at the junction by the supermarket (opposite the filling station) and you'll find the 'Grelhador' restaurant on your right. Walk down the slope to the restaurant entrance. Good range of quality meals and Jose should also be offering a 'touristic' menu at around 10 euros. Well worth a visit! (Jose also runs the restaurant on the beach, nearest to the steps from the Nautilus apts.)

In November, Armacao de Pera is a quiet and relaxing place.  The sun is still warm enough for T-shirts, shorts and sunbathing. There are only a few people on the beach so you can enjoy a pleasant stroll and, if you feel like it, a paddle.  The beach bars and restaurants are uncrowded so you can sit and take your time over a delicious meal without feeling pressurised into hurrying up because people are waiting.  The town itself is winding down from the frenetic activity of the summer season and the shop assistants have time to chat and help you find a bargain.  The pace of life is so much gentler in November, much more relaxed and friendly, which is just how I like it.

Armacao De Pera is a resort with miles of golden sandy beaches. It is a great place to kick back, relax and watch the world go by. It's not a place for noisy, binge drinking,, bar crawls so if this is what you are looking for then stay away - you will be disappointed!
A relaxed and informal night life, shops selling holiday gifts & souvenirs, traditional coffe shops and cobbled streets in the main town make for a good day out browsing what's on offer.
Most of the tourists you will find here are made up of the Portugese people taking their own summer break, with a sprinkle of german, british and eastern europeans taking advantage of the great weather and soft golden sand! A handy tip - most of the locals head off down to the beach in the morning and have left by lunchtime, so if you like your sunbathing to be a little more peaceful, wait until after lunch before you head off down there!
