Review by Rita Lo from Hong Kong

Brighton is a lively place.

Review by David Stratton from Antigua Guatemala

Brighton truly is the closest thing to "London by the sea", a great city and staying in Hove gives us the best of all options. The quieter and more refined pleasures of Hove as a home base with all the fun and activity of Brighton within walking distance.

Review by Martin Pope from Bristol

We love Brighton as there is so much going on there. We were lucky enough to see the filming of the remake of the 1947 film 'Brighton Rock'.The weather is usually much nicer than back home(Bristol).

Review by Peter Carr from London

For our purposes the best thing was the lenghty promenade for long walks by the sea in both directions, especially East towards Saltdean. The Brighton Marina also appealed greatly to us.

Review by Marion Hansen from Brentwood

You have asked for too many comments re Brighton. So we would just like to say it exceeded our expectations, there was something for everyone and not a scrote in sight!! We had great days and brilliant evenings and would definitely return. Loved the seafront, my sister even went in the sea (mad mama!!)

Review by Bobbie Daly from London

A very buzzy cosmopolitan place loads to do for all ages, great shopping, good restaurants.

Review by GAIL MADIN from chesterfield

brighton has never been on my radar but it definately is now...loved the place as did my 6 yr old. the sea was clean and a pleasure to paddle in, amazing number of resturants to choose from, a reliable bus service, and plenty of things to see and do. found a lovely pool and sand activity playground totally free of charge which my little boy loved. a beautiful, clean ,cosmopolitan, happening place..hope to go back again october

Review by emily pruden from shrewsbury

Brighton and hove is a wonderfully cosmopolitan city with great things to offer for every age group and genre. With plenty to see and do you will not get bored. The beaches are lovely and clean specially the Hove end. The iconic Grand Hotel is great for afternoon tea overlooking the sea. The theatres are great with plenty of shows, comics etc to see, basically a great British holiday destination!!

Review by Karen Fetherstonhaugh from Penrith

Perfect family holiday destination - it has everything: beach, city with many children's activities, (some of them free), great shopping/ culture plus the South Downs.

Review by Janet Payne from Favesham

Fantastic public bus service in and around Brighton - especially for us pensioners with our free bus passes!

Review by Wafaa Enan from Cairo, Egypt

I love Brighton, it,s really one of the liveliest places in the UK.

Review by Su Brierley from Manchester

I'v wanted to visit Brighton for some time now and particularly as I'm vegan.

The Taj International Grocery on Western Road is packed to the rafters with everything a vegan could want. The only downside is the inhouse butcher area - what a shock - I stayed well clear of that area. The Infinity Co-operative Supermarket is more fitting to the vegan lifestyle but does have a dairy section. I'm used to the all vegan Unicorn Grogery in Manchester. VBites was well worth the first early evening visit - one of the most delicious meals I'v ever tasted. However on our second late evening visit at 10.00 we discovered they were already closed because they ran out of food!!??. It officially closes at 11.30!! We were extremely disappointed. But the food is amazing.

Loads of vintage shops to trawl through, qwerky little streets full of activity and interesting people. Stunning architecture, street after street of beautiful white houses. Took tons of photos. The beach is simply breathtaking when the sunlight scatters it's rays. Lovely and warm, people always polite and generous. I'll be vistiting Brighton for sure some time soon

Review by MARGUERITE MODICA from KILSYTH GLASGOW

We travelled down in a large party of over 30 people - we had 20+ young girls competing in the Future Cheer International Cheer and Dance championships in the Brighton Centre and Brighton Dome.

The girls gained 3 first places, and 2 runners up so all in all we had a great weekend. The weather was great and everyone had a wonderful weekend. We will definately be back in July 2010!!

Review by ELISA JINKS from CRADLEY HEATH

EXCELLENT PLACE TO VISIT WITH LOTS OF QUIRKY SHOPS AND EATING OUT PLACES!

Review by Michael Frisby from Cambridge

We loved the amazing range of shops and eating places with their individual character. Also the mixture and blend of old and new.

Review by george pickett from bourne

busy , noisy no place like it!! the sat market, the lanes wonderful!!

Review by Frances Guy from edinburgh

Review by Charlotte Cox from Bloxwich- West Midlands

Brighton is a fantastic place to stay, and caters for most type of holiday. If you want to relax, then the beach and restaurants are fantastic, if you want the nightlife then the bars, clubs and pubs are brilliant, you are sure to find something in Brighton to suit your needs, whatever they are!

Review by Carla Smith from Northamptonshire

Brighton had all we needed for a fab Hen weekend! There was plenty to do in the day and equally as good in the evening. The nightlife was good with a good selection of bars, clubs and resturants.

Would definatly reccomend!

Review by elden chamberlain from bangkok thailand

my head office is in brighton so i visit regularly from thailand. I enjoy the place so much i bought a flat on the seafront as an investment. Brighton has the sophistication of london in a small town setting that is fun, risque and tolerant. Its the only place in the UK I would ever think of living

Review by Samantha Doland-deVaux from Godalming

Jamie's Italian Restaurant was excellent so don't believe the snippy bad reviews around the net - Brighton Marina however felt overdeveloped now and even a whiff of the Benidorm about it but lots to do and see there with free parking and the pizza express is excellent there - so worth a visit!

Review by Janine Campling from London

This is my favourite UK location

Review by Kelly Coate from Galway

If you have small children but don't want to spend a week denying yourselves any adult pleasures, then Brighton is a good choice. We've twice now rented beautiful flats down near the Pier and the seaside (in spring and winter) and both times enjoyed ourselves by just wandering around the area. The kids love all the seaside attractions and for the adults there are hundreds of funky little shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. It's probably a good idea to find a babysitter if you have kids just so you can go exploring without them at some point, but even with two toddlers I found the restaurants and cafes to be welcoming. Now that I live in a rural part of the world, I need to get a cosmpolitan 'fix' without the stress of a really large city (because of the wee ones) and Brighton is perfect. The people are chilled and there is a certain Brighton vibe that is hard not to enjoy.

Review by Kim Woods-OBrien from Great Kingshill

Brighton is buzzing especially when the weather is great. Hove is just a little bit further out so more chilled and peaceful, but the perfect combination for a break.

Review by Paul Atkins from Charlotte, NC

Everything was as it appeared in the listing. Rooms were well equipped, clean and nicely furnished. Location was perfect, close to everything a visitor to England needs - bookies, pubs, supermarket, Indian food, the Pier, Beachfront, a Park, the Lanes, the Pavillion etc. etc. Jo the Mgr. welcomed us on arrival and was there whenever we called but was never intrusive during our stay. Would stay there anytime!

Review by Yuki Murata from Yokohama, Japan

Brighton & Hove is my most favourite town in the world, where I lived once.

You can reach everything you want, even the beach as well.

Oh and, it's a great music town! as well as relaxing and healing town that's why I still visit there regularly :-)

Review by sari varilo from helsinki finland

Good place to spend Xmas and New Year. Lovely city, much to do. And yet very near London.

Review by Susan Harper from Petth

Fabulous place to visit -- lots to do and see, lots of shopping and eclectic mix of shops, people and things to do.

Review by Ish Reyes from Barrington Hills, Illinois USA

Brighton for us is a place for Relaxation and Rest but we always find the time for trips to Komedia for comedy and shopping in the Lanes. The restaurants are kind of on the expensive side but Don Carlos in the Lanes is a great place for food and fun with Spanish flavor and Tapas. We always meet new people and party until late at places like Pasha on Western. Brighton Hove is a safe place to visit with excellent public transportation to everywhere. We love the place!

Review by Jamie Hulland from Exeter

A unique, funky town full of bars, clubs and shops, with some weird and wonderful sights around every corner...the Lanes and the Regent's Pavilion to name a few. The people are friendly and everyone is catered for, whether you need a relaxing time by the sea eating out in chic restaurants and chilling out in a backstreet bar or whether you want an adrenalin-filled weekend of clubbing and partying, the city has it all.

Review by Barbro Anderson from Granstigen 6, 62377 Klintehamn

Brighton, one of our favourite travel destinations.

Splended bus-walks in the beautiful surroundings of the city.

Nice and inspiring bookshops, Waterstones and Borders.

Easy to travel around with a Saver in your hand.

Excellent restaurants.

A city full of nice and friendly people.

We'll soon return.

Warmest regards, Barbro and Håkan Anderson.

Review by Elaine Perry from Dunnville, Ontario, Canada

When walking around Brighton and Hove at any time of day or night I felt extremely safe. Never any fear usually associated with bigger centres.

We quite often bought a "day pass" on the local bus and just headed out for the day, great value for only a few pounds.

The shopping is amazing, love the lanes!

Review by barrie hammond from chorley

happening place on many levels

Review by Jinny Nash from Hereford

I lived in Brighton & Hove for 10 years and it is an incredible place. I don't think there's anywhere else in the country that rivals it and although it's very different now than when I first visited 12 years ago - many of the changes make it a fantastic choice for a holiday or short break. There is always something to do in terms of restaurants, shops, shows and movies and if you scratch a bit further below the surface there are so many events, talks and classes to try and then there's the seafront which I think is the secret ingredient. Just walking along the seafront is great in any weather - sunshine, storms (incredible waves) and the West Pier at dusk to watch the starlings. The new development around the library in the North Laines is awesome - it's all so cosmopolitan and really puts B&H on the city status map.

Review by Sandra Yuill from Colchester

The welcoming atmosphere from the community really made an impression on us as visitors. We are considering relocating to Brighton for this very reason.

Review by Brian Chaplin from Garrabost, Isle of Lewis

We came without our car, finding the bus service excellent especially if you buy your weekly pass on-line. Found the downland walks, accessible from various points along the city bus network excellent. Pity the bus pass for city buses didn't cover routes of other operators, however, the pass was well worth the money.

Brighton has a fascinating charm enlivened by the diversity of its residents and empowered by their friendliness

Review by JOHN HEATHCOTE from Chelmsford, Essex.

What a discovery Brighton is.............a hidden gem, the perfect location. So easy to reach from London. I love the huge variety of unique independent shops, oh so different from most towns. The big names are here too but not so in your face! The restaurants are just super , such a variety to suit all tastes and pockets. The entertainment choice is outstanding, so many theatres and concert venues, just so, so good. An finally the pier.........outstanding.....with free deckchairs as well !! When I want a break to get away from things, no need for the tiring hassle of a flight to Europe,...... Brighton is now the first choice for me.

Review by Hamish Thomson from London

Brighton is the jewel in the south coast's crown.

Review by Maggie Hague from Sheffield

Brighton is great as there is something for everyone. I am always impressed by the range of places to eat and antique shops to explore. It always feels a safe place to be out and about in and I will be back.

Review by Ros Warren from Peterborough

This was our first time visit to Brighton. We loved the location and hardly left the town. The Marina was a favourite attration with all the restaurants, 24 hour Asda and the lovely little shops. The people were really friendly and made us feel very welcome. The pier is a lovely attraction, with the fun fair at the end of the pier.

Review by Jeremy Atkin from Würzburg, Bavaria, Germany

Brighton and Hove is everything it is cracked up to be! Not all is positive but this could depend on what one is looking for - a question of taste. At any rate not at all boring, even if as in our case the sun only managed to come out once in 7 days.

Review by Bob McRobert from Winchester

Brighton has so much to offer for young and old. Plenty of choice is available whether it is restaurants, clubs, bars, pubs, beaches, shops or things to do. The bus system is very good for town or beyond, so a car is really a liability with very limited parking for visitors to the busy areas. There are plenty of areas to walk and explore along the seafront for miles in both directions plus the Marina and the South Downs not too far away. There is the pier, the Lanes, the Volks railway, the Pavilion, pitch & putt as well as the beaches. Few resorts have such a variety.

Review by visitor

Brighton is friendly and and is good value for money.

Review by Susan Curran from Geneva

Brighton and Hove was an interesting mix of youthful and modern as well as traditional. It is big enough to have every kind of food and great shopping, but small enough to be easy to get around and the people are nicer than in a big city. The local transport was good enough to enable us to get by without a car and enjoy walking to take in the lovely architecture a views from the higher spots in spite of it being one of the worst Augusts for weather in many years according to the locals!

Review by Martin Raybould from Cesena

Apart from the weather, which like all English holiday destinations is in the lap of the Gods, Brighton has so much going for it. The shops are chic, there are numerous good value eateries and the choice is especially good for vegetarians. I think you'd holiday there for the town rather than the beach which is clean enough but like most along this coast is mostly pebbly. however, the bracing sea air and wide promenade make for a healthy options of walking or jogging along the seafront and, unlike in London, there's always a feeling that you can escape from the crowds when you want.

Review by ANN EDWARDS from PEMBROKE PINES.FLORDIA

LOVELY PLACE WITH FRIENDLY PEOPLE HAD A WONDERFUL TIME DID'NT NEED TO US THE CAR AS PUBLIC TRANSPORT WAS VERY GOOD EVERYTHING WE NEEDED WAS IN WALKING DISTANCE SOME GREAT EATING PLACES

Review by David Harris from Norwich

Brighton seafront and a few other areas seemed a little 'run down' and scruffy needing a good coat of paint, and a face lift.....and if i was to move down there like i would love too i will put myself forward to do this..... at a price of course!!! as i will need a job :-) cause thats what i do here.

I think the council etc need to address this as it will only get worse and may then have an affect on tourism.

Otherwise it is a great place and i love coming to visit you all.

David.

Review by Marie PETITMENGIN from Strasbourg

we REALLY enjoyed the handsome half naked guys that installed scaffoldings on the house next to ours during our stay...

Review by Ben Murphy from Tunbridge Wells

I have been very pleased with the whole experience and will be booking again. The only problem I can find is that I was unable to pay the security deposit separately from the rest of the bill. £300 is a lot of money on top of £600 and it would have been nice to have been able to split the payments.

Review by Marja-Leena Ketonen from Helsinki

We did not visit many tourist attractions because all of us had spent a lot of time in Brighton 1n the 1970's and 80,s.

Review by Aaron Meskin from Leeds

Very kid-friendly.

Review by Alan McCredie from Edinburgh

Have always wanted to visit Brighton and wasn't disappointed when I did. It is a great mix of bohemian & chic, and the sea front and the pier are fantastic. Will definitely be back!

Review by alastair durie from stirling

the contrast between the marina shopping centre- dull, grey, run down, and the vibrancy of the shopping in Brighton proper could not be greater. Excellent range of places to eat out or to buy from for a pick up meal at 'home'. the pavillion is a must see- should be in the top three of Britain's historic attractions. You don't know whether to gasp or laugh- or both.

Review by Andrea Lennon from Saskatoon, SK Canada

We are seriously considering moving to Brighton. What an amazing community!!

Review by Carol Hickey from Navan

Brighton is absolutley beautiful and we have went over every year for the past 3 yrs and love it, gorgeous place to be

Review by Shaun Young from Southsea

Brighton always gives us a buzz when we visit!

Review by Shane Hughes from London

Funky and friendly

Review by Pedro Mendez from Buenos Aires, Argentina

I came to visit my son. I would have never expected that he is living in such a beautiful city. The seafront is very beautiful and the peolpe is very warm. You do not need to go to London to have good restaurants, theather and fun. A very beatuiful city.

Review by John Jolly from Saumur France

We were most interested in the history of Brighton, notably, of course the Royal Pavilion. Our visit to the pavilion was helped by the clear audio guide. The surrounding countryside was also attractive and our visit to the Seven Sisters Country Park helped us appreciate the coastline and the beautiful scenic walks. There were also interesting and historic places to visit such as Eastbourne , Lewes and Rottingdean. The Kipling Gardens in Rottingdean were peaceful and well maintained. The bus system was excellent and the drivers always ready to help with directions. We benefited from the Saver Ticket which we obtained from the Visitor Information Office. The bracing walks along the front from the Marina to Hove were good for the health as well as providing plenty of interest. The little Volks Railway gave the chance to travel along the front if one needed a rest!

Review by Pampis Vassiliou from Limassol

Brighton & Hove is amazing is a place where you can fun and relax is the best place for me to enjoy life real life.

Review by Emma Nicholson from Shanghai

Brighton is a very young city and extremely diverse. As there are a couple of universities and many colleges in the local areas the town is full of colourful young people from many different countries as well as from UK. This gives brighton a youthful feel about it. Brighton is also a place where anything goes and you can see people wearing all different styles of clothing and dress with hairstyles to match. There are so many events during the year that Brighton is never dull from the Brighton Festival to Gay Pride to theatre groups to classical music to Radio One in the Park. And not forgetting the wonderful sight of the swooping starlings as they twirl around the old pier before they roost as the sun goes down behind them.

Review by Camilla Hamilton from London

The Brighton Pavilion is a real treat and has a fantastic children's guide too.

Review by Margaret Collier from Portsmouth

Brighton can be whatever you want it to be - it attracts people for many different reasons. We went for a relaxing break and to go to a concert. It certainly fulfilled our expectations.

Review by Kathryn Rowles from Evesham

A great place for a weekend with a group of friends. Shopping, seaside attractions, shops, restaurants & bars. A place that buzzes with life!

Fabulous restaurant in North Road - Bill's at the Depot. Looks like a farmshop/greengrocers at first look but behind the barrow of fruit & veg lurks the most fabulous restaurant. The food was fresh & looked & tasted wonderful. The setting is quirky - reminded me of Quincy Market in Boston.....and the puddings......to die for!

Review by Karen White from Penzance

Brighton/Hove a good fun time place for all ages. Very cosmopolitan, loads of bars and restaurants - you'll never go hungry! It all comes however at a price!

Review by Laurel Meath from Greenwich, Conncticut USA

Brighton has long been a favorite destination of mine. I'm currently located near New York City and often long for it's quaint yet incredibly well stocked seaside charm. Superb vegetarian friendly restaurants with surprizingly diverse crowds. I always come home with my bags over-stuffed with fabulous treasures (did all my Christmas shopping in October there this year,) and have even exported furniture across the pond, found in upscale yet very welcoming antique shops. Together with CityPad's wonderful flats at shockingly good values for thriving Brighton, it's really one of the best destination for everyone.

Review by David Hanson from Manitowish Waters, Wisconsin, USA

Brighton is an exciting place for the young professionals and university people. A little expensive but a place where there are a lot of options for a pint and some bangers and mash. I found the people to be very friendly and helpful. The bus system made movement in the city easy and cost effective and the train system made movement into and out of the city (into London) very simple. We spent a month in Brighton over Christmas and had no problems getting services although I would expect more people and delays at restaurants during the peak summer season. We will be back.

Review by Laura Francis from Bristol

Brighton has some brilliant shopping and wonderful restaurants, in winter time you can go for a bracing walk along the seafront. It is one of the few real old fashioned British sea-side resorts left. Beautiful houses in Hove, and the crazy but lovely Dome give it some historical interest too. Recommend Bill's in North Laine for breakfast and Pinxo People on Western Road for amazing tapas with great service.

Review by Richard Brennan from Miami

It was well worth staying in Brighton as an alternative to London, especially with the 50 minute journey trains through the country side running just about every 30 min from early morning until after 1 am each night.

The night life and scenery is fabulous, its like London on a much smaller and intimate scale.

Review by Geoff Chapman from Urunga

Found Brighton and Hove a great introduction to England. Plenty of history and easy striking distance to London. Shops and pubs all friendly and helpful.

Review by Craig Wells from Worthing

Church Road has many restaurants and cafes which we frequently visited. The prices were reasonable, but above all there was plenty of choice and everywhere we went had a friendly atmosphere about it.
