Cala mandia is quiet and relaxed. There are two fantastic beaches nearby and a train is available to take you into porta crista if needed. There's a lovely kids play area just down the road to entertain the children at night. I would recomend hiring a car like we did and explore Majorca as there is many interesting places to visit around this area.

Cala Mandia is a small town outside Porto Cristo, it seems mainly a tourist destination with the Insotel Hotel dominating the area with addtional hotels too. There is a bank and a good few places to eat all with menus in multiple languages. There didn't seem to be much in the way of nightlife but it could start later in the season.
The beach is small and well maintained and the sea was beautifully clear, it had one beachside restuarant/cafe.
It was about an hours drive from Palma and is a good base to see the island from as long as you have a car
