| | | Ideal for relaxation | | Why go on holiday to Cala San Vicente? Located in the north of Majorca, in a quieter area of the island, and surrounded by stunning scenery, Cala San Vicente is a pleasant, friendly place ideal for relaxation.
How much does it cost? A week's self-catering in June is from £350 including return flights. Flights only start at about £130 return. Mid-range hotel accommodation (double room) costs from about £35 per night. Prices vary so shop around.
When should I go? May-June and September-October are best, to avoid the crowds and higher prices of July and August. Visit in spring for the flowers in the mountainous north-west of the islands.
In summer temperatures average 70F (23C) to 88F (30C); in winter, 43F (6C) to 58F (15C). May-June and September are best to avoid the crowds and higher prices of July and August.

| | | Crystal clear water | | What should I do when I'm there? Unwind! Take a tranquil walk along the sheltered coastline, or drive along the coastal roads to drink in the spectacular views from the nearby Cape Formentor.
What are the beaches like? The two main sandy beaches, Cala Barques and Cala Molins, are separated by the rocky headland, and there's also the tiny Cala Clara. Rugged mountains loom overhead and the water is beautifully clear.
Where could I go on a day trip? There are plenty of options within easy striking distance. Visit the prehistoric caves inland, or the Inca Market on each Thursday, which has several factory outlets selling locally-produced leather goods.
The old town of Pollensa and its port are just nearby, while there are some interesting Roman ruins at Alcudia.
What activities can I do? There's great walking country around Cala San Vicente. It's also a fantastic place to go snorkelling, as the waters are so clear.
Take a bread roll to feed the multitude of fish that surround you, or snorkel out about 50 metres from the beach and admire the coral reef.

| | | Dine under the stars | | Where's good for nightlife? The larger hotels will put on some entertainment, but ardent clubbers need not apply - this resort is strictly for those seeking peace and quiet.
Nearby Puerto Pollensa offers more of a choice of bars, restaurants and nightlife (although there are only a few nightclubs).
What's the food like? Majorcan specialities include lechona (roast suckling pig), roast lamb, arroz brut (a meat, fish and vegetable stew with rice), and snails with ali-oli (a garlic mayonnaise). Wash 'em down with local wine, look up at the stars and enjoy!
What should I buy? Local handicrafts include pottery, olive wood carvings, raffia, glassware, and handmade lace. The best place to shop locally is at the vibrant Sunday market in Pollensa.
What is there for children to do? Cala San Vicente isn't really an ideal place for children, unless they are happy to stay on the beach.
