Travel Reviews : Calahonda

Review by Benoit Fillion from Rimouski, QC, Canada

Calahonda is a relaxing place from where we can visit around and go to the beach.

Review by eithne boreham from horley

calahonda is a sweet little area. very friendly restaurants and plenty of supermarkets and bars to choose from. quite built up areas but still remains relatively quiet. we did go oct. only complaint no beach worth going to, within walking distance. 10 mins in car to lovely cabopino.

Review by Karen Charles from Fleet

Great destination for families. The area is safe and clean and has lots to do. The beaches are not the best in the world but Cabopino is just 5 mins away and the beaches there are excellent.

Review by Jason Perrins from Droitwich Spa,Worcestershire

We have been coming to Spain for years due to my parents retiring there and Calahonda is a ideal location and good base for us to enjoy our holiday and visit family. We have just arrived back (first two weeks in August)and i must say that bars, restaurants beach were very quiet with mostly local people but hardly any Brits. It was ridiciously expensive but we always enjoy self catering anyway which was a god send with two young children and two oap's (the inlaws) in tow.The euro & credit crunch has definatley affected everything, the weather was fantastic and no queing for anything which was the plus point.I suppose with all the problems with the banks this year it has had a massive affect in tourism too,i'll probably look at a holiday next year who are 'euro free'.

Review by Stephen Bertram from Kilwinning

Calahonda has a great deal of restaraunts and bars on offer some better than others but if you want to try typical spanish food then we would recomend the towns of Fuengirola or Marbella which offer a large selection of tapa's bars.

Review by Jack Burris from Grantham, Lincs

Calahonda, is well placed for visting Marbella, Malaga, Benalmadina,Fuengirola and even Gibraltar. The scenic mountan views going to Ronda are spectacular.

Review by member Coates from Dudley

Calahonda of us is an ideal location. Not too close to the main towns of Fuengirola and Marbella but easily reached when needed either by car or by the frequent and good public transport.

There a plentifull supply of restaurants and bars to cater for everones needs from quite quaint ones to the more busy fast food joints and the beach bars are excellent too.  One of our favourites was Royal Beach behind McDonalds.

Review by Joanne Brown from Tupsely Hereford

Lots of english so we did not have to try our pigeon spanish. Plenty to do for the children and the train to get you around was a great for them and it saved us using the car all the time.

Review by carol butler from cork ireland

calahonda is a miniture english resort but it does have some lovely restaurants and is very conveniently located to travel to many beautiful areas. calahonda is the perfect base if you are looking for somewhere quite to stay but within easy traveling distance of the major resorts.

Review by Brian Jennings from Belfast

The complex was safe and well kept. However, to get to shops etc you had to cross over the main A7 road via a foot bridge. This road is extremely busy. the beach beside the apartment complex was small and not very nice as the sand was very black and sticky, However a few miles up the road was a beautiful beach although a car would be required to get to it. Calahonda is a nice area but very limited and a little run down/

Review by Michael Twomey from London

Calahonda is a very central place to explore the costa del sol. I have been going there for many years and still enjoy the area. My advice would be to stay up in the hills and hire a car as this is the most relaxing area of Calahonda.

Review by Vicki Elliott from Haslemere

Would recommend Calahonda for the Restaurants and friendly people. Would not recomment the Beach - no bins, dog little, beer cans, glass and cig buts every where. Not a child friendly, clear sand beach, go along the coast to Cabopino.
