Travel Reviews : Caleta de Fuste

Review by Simon Gosney from West Yorkshire

Caleta de Fuste must be good i've been five times in the last nine years, the weather is always hot even if a little breezy but thats a good thing cos it keeps you cool, the beach is a nice size so you can relax in peace if you want to,eating out caters for every taste and every price range

Review by Gillian Lefel from Manchester

Caleta de fuste. Lots of excellent restaurants all in one area. Spanish, Portuguese, Chinese, Mexican, Steak Houses, Irish Pubs, English Cafes - spoiled for choice. Lovely beach. Doesnt attract gangs of young people. Locals very friendly. Lovely climate.

Caleta de Fuste
Why go on holiday to Caleta de Fuste?
For round-the-calendar sun, the sandy beach and the peace and quiet. If you're looking for an action and attraction-packed holiday in Caleta de Fuste, you won't find one; it's strictly for relaxation and recuperation with a touch of water sports for the more adventurous.

How much will it cost?
Return flights to Fuerteventura start from £75 in low season rising to £150 at peak times. Transfers from the airport to resort take about 25 minutes.

In Caleta de Fuste you can book the five-star Elba Palace Gold Hotel for a week's bed and breakfast for two people for £826 in peak season. For something more reasonable, try the Puerta del Sol for £300 for seven days' bed and breakfast in peak season.

When should I go?
Like the rest of Fuerteventura, Caleta de Fuste enjoys warm weather all year with the peak in August and September with average highs of 29C and 11 hours of sun a day. Unlike other Mediterranean resorts the heat rarely becomes unbearable due to the breeze that often blows across the island.

Who's it for?
For older couples and families seeking to tuck their heads into a book and get a bit of a tan. Self-catering packages are very popular. Party animals need not apply.

What are the must-sees?
The resort lacks great photo opportunities unless you want albums of beach shots. The premiere "sight" is the small tower near the harbour which might hold your interest for a brief spell. Head to the nearby historic towns of Antigua and Betancuria or the sand dunes to the island's north for your pictures.

There's also a zoo and a camel safari in the south of the island. For the really energetic you can always a book a day trip to the neighbouring island of Lanzarote.

What will I spend?
Bottle of beer from 65p, camera film £2.50, moderate meal with wine for two £20-£25, litre of petrol 31p, short taxi ride £1.50 Costs will vary.
