It seems that our first review has been heavily edited.  I shall try again.
The villa was set in a quiet village type area with good access to many restaurants.
However, we did have a problem with a type of insect which resembled a cockroach although we were assured it was not.  The company dropped off a can of spray which was meant to keep them at bay and on the whole it seemed to work, although spraying around the doors and the house every time was somewhat laborious.  However it was not great to have them scuttling around the floor.
When we arrived at the villa on our first night the lock was broken and we could not gain access to the property through the front door.  The telephone number of the company we had been given went straight to voicemail being a Sunday evening (about 8pm) and there was no emergency number.  We eventually had to gain access through a window which had been left unlocked.  Fortunately we had the lock changed the following day.
We were also recommended (by the company we booked the villa from) a taxi company to pick us up from the airport and take us to the villa.  When we got to the airport we had to wait over an hour because the driver was waiting to pick other people up.  Once they arrived, he took us to the area our villa was in but dropped us in the middle of the village, informing us he had no idea where our villa was and we would have to find it ourselves.  Lugging our baggage through the streets was not a great start.
Apart from these problems, the villa was acceptable but I would not go back there again.

| | | Callao Salvaje, Tenerife | | Why go on holiday to Callao Salvaje? For sun, sea and sand but less of the hectic buzz of the nearby resorts of Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos. This picturesque resort has a low-key nightlife, a scattering of quiet bars and shops and also boasts the highest number of sunshine hours per year on Tenerife.
How much will it cost? The island has two busy international airports with the southern one closest to Callao Salvaje. Britannia, Monarch, Iberia and British Airways all offer flights there with return fares from London starting from £70. Accommodation: a two-bedroom beachside villa sleeping four people, located close to a golf course, with a private heated pool, a terrace and barbecue area costs from £690 a week.
When should I go? The climate is beach friendly all year round although it can get a bit overpowering in mid summer. More bearable is the December to February period, also the island's busiest period.
If you're a festival fan, visit in January for the international music festival, in February and March for an opera extravaganza or in October and November for the biennial international film festival.
Who's it for? Families with kids or fun seekers who want to sample the nearby nightlife but not be in the heart of the action.
What are the must-sees? Once you've exhausted the sunbathing and water sports opportunities — including plentiful para-sailing, swimming, snorkelling and scuba diving in Callao Salvaje — the rest of the island is rich in history.
Highlights include the 17th-century baroque Iglesia de San Francisco church and the Parque de GarcĂa Sanabria in Santa Cruz where you can sip espresso and chat with locals.
What will I spend? As a rough guide, small bottle of beer 60p, roll of film £2.50, moderate restaurant meal £7, litre of petrol 40p, short taxi ride £4.
