Very expensive to dine , beware the restaurants on the beach front , exhorbitant and not particularly good food , there to catch the unsuspecting tourist.
Very noisy at night , even from the villa on the hill and we were unfortunate enough to be there when building work took place on the sea front , every morning at 7am lorries arrived unloading rocks , the din woke us up without fail and carried on all day.

Castellemmare is well placed for the holidaymaker that wants to mix a relaxing holiday with a few cultural and historic visits that don't involve a lot of driving around in hot and sticky cars.
It is located within 30 minutes drive if Palermo airport, the A29 from Palermo delivers you to the town without a change of direction, a stress free drive that allows you to arrive at the resort wearing a satisfied " I'm on holiday " expression rather than the usual " i need a drink " one.
The town is a mix of the old and the new, the old port is attractive and dominated by the small castle and a marina fringed with fish restaurants displaying the catch of the day in iced cabinets for you to inspect, the food is very good and reasonably priced despite the poor exchange rate of the euro.Do be careful where you park in the old port area, we incurred a parking fine having parked next to a "P" for parking sign in the dark not noticing that it was at the end of the marked parking bays !
The beaches are good and safe for bathers with the sea shelving gently, the water being waste high for a good distance making it a good area for children to bath and paddle, the area is well served by beach bars serving good snacks and drinks, again at reasonable prices.
The new town has plenty of shops, but it is mostly beach wear, nic nacs and a bit of bling, not a top shopping area but good for a mooch around in the morning.
Castellammare is well placed for a couple of close by trips out to top up on the historic and culture that Sicily has to offer, Do go to Erice, the most peaceful and attractive hill town i have visited, it stands 700m above sea level, a sacred place and mighty fortress since time immemorial, the views from the limestone ramparts and the delightful medley of its tiny piazzas and cobbled streets are without equal, there are plenty of tourists thronging the streets but the town has plenty of quiet corners in which to escape.
Do also visit Segesta's sun bleached Greek temple, located in splendid isolation amid beautiful countryside, the temple was started around 425BC, but apparently never finished though with its 36 columns and majestic appearance you would never know, be sure to take the short trip to the nearby Greek theatre, take the bus for 1.5 euro if its hot as there is no shade, the theatre is excavated out of the hillside, the stepped seating is largely intact and the views are remarkable stretching to the sea across Monte Erice and the plains below.
An example of modern day engineering is also on display with the elevated motorway winding its way between the hill towns below, yet not detracting from the view.
