Travel Guides: All Countries / Europe / Ireland / County Cork / West Cork / Castletownshend

Travel Reviews : Castletownshend

Review by visitor

Castletownshend is a unique unspoiled 19th centuary Anglo Irish Village, built on a steep hill leading to the Fishing port and St Barrahanes Church. Birthplace of Edith Somerville author of the Irish RM series of comic novels about life in West Cork at the turn of the last centuary.

Today the village offers an unrivaled location to unwind and take in the beauty of West Cork.

One of the few remaining locations where one can view the night sky without the intrusion of street lighting.
