What's the weather like in Costa del Sol?
The Costa del Sol boasts its exceptional Mediterranean climate which gives it its name. With an average 300 cloudless days a year and average summer temperatures exceeding 25 C it is easy to see the attraction. The coastal areas receive less than 400mm of rainfall a year and even the most humid areas of the interior receive an average of about 600-800mm.
The Costa itself extends 160km along the coastline, lined with numerous beaches. So it by no means a small area. Malaga itself holds a population of 500’000 making it the sixth largest city in Spain. Other major towns include Antequera, Nerja, Torremolinos, Benalmadena, Fuengirola, Marbella and Estepona. Eastern Costa del Sol stretches for 54km from Malaga to the Almeria Province. Developments are centred around the town of Nerja, which is a traditional Spanish town encircled by typical Spanish pueblos which are a favourite with the tourists. Western Costa del Sol extends for 100km of coastline from Malaga to the outskirts of the Cadiz province. The west is perhaps more developed towards tourism than the east and it is here that you’ll find the majority of tourist attractions.
