Spain is infamous for its fun-loving culture and various festivals. The Costa del Sol is one of the best places to experience this. All year round the Spaniards find an excuse to celebrate.
Over recent years, Costa del Sol has been coined the ‘Costa del Golf’ after it hosted the 1997 Ryder Cup. The stretch of land running between Malaga and Gibraltar has a total of 36 competition level courses and another 18 in the planning. So if golf is your thing Costa del Sol really is the place for you!
But don’t worry if Golf is not for you. The area is also renowned for its great shopping and nightlife. Marbella and Puerto Banus, offer hundreds of designer boutiques, trendy bars and nightclubs and are some of the most Cosmopolitan towns to be found on the Costa del Sol. Nightlife on the Costa is one of the best in the world. There are casinos, flamenco shows, Salsa Discos, top shows, clubs and thousands of bars and terraces to while away the night. Malaga, Marbella, Estepona and Puerto Banus are perhaps the best places to experience the Spanish party culture.
If you don’t fancy partying all night, you can discover some of the Andalusian cuisine in the local restaurants. Here you can sample some typical Mediterranean dishes which usually consist of seafood. The area is full of vineyards and olive groves so naturally the local wines and olive oils are a must. The local specialty is Gazpacho, a chilled tomato soup, which tastes its best when eaten on a hot summer day. There are many customary Spanish restaurants available but the Costa also offers you international cuisines, including British. So if you fancy a little taste of home you are never too far away!
