Travel Reviews : District V

Review by Funmi Olorunfemi from London

District V has a good mix of heritage and modern buildings, and is the hub of the tourist haunts, with its shops (good value too), restaurants, museums, etc. We found the people to be generally friendly and helpful, even when they struggled to communicate with us in English. The transport links too are also very good, with the options of tram, tube, buses, and taxis.

Review by Joanne Rafferty from Lancaster, PA USA

District V was fantastic. It is central to everything you need and want to see. There is a fantastic Central Market and the pedestrian shopping of Vaci Utca is endless. The Great Synagogue is nearby as well as St. Stephens Basilica. We had wonderful meals in any of the restaurants. District V is lively with street musicians and small Hungarian shops. The architecture is lovely to look at making a simple walk around a fabulous time out. The Danube is blocks away and the views of the Castle district in Buda are lovely and worth the trip across to see. I loved the baths in Budapest and wish there were some in the V. However, it is not a far trip across the river to a handful of wonderful baths.

We never felt unsafe at any time of day or night. There were always people around and we felt like we belonged to this lovely neighborhood. If you go to Budapest District V is the place to be.
