EL Medano is a favouite wind surfing destination - great if you are a windsurfer - but the constant wind can be a little tiresome.
Review by Graham Barthorpe from Bedfordshire
El Medano is beautiful and unpoilt - ocean and mountain views all round. If you're looking for a quiet, away from it all, relaxing break, then it's perfect.
El Medano is a complete world away from the busy resorts of Los Cristianos and Playa De Las Americas - but these are still easily accessible within a 20 - 30 minute drive (as is Tenerife South Airport). Getting around by car is easy as there is clear signage to all areas of interest. Parking spaces can be a bit limited in some areas though!
The climate (in March) was great with temperatures reaching on average 23 / 24 degrees daily and mainly clear sunshine, although cloudy on occasion (usually morning) this soon cleared. The El Medano area is windy (very popular for windsurfing) but this is a perfect antidote to the still heat of other, more sheltered areas and can be a blessing at times.
There are several, uncommercial beach areas in El Medano which are very scenic and perfect for a walk or for sitting and watching the watersports.
The area has a small resort centre (which is clean and well kept) and a 'public' beach area with several bars, restaurants, shops and a couple of supermarkets.
English is very widely spoken.
El Medano is highly recommended as a quiet, relaxing and 'away from it all' location.
