Having only visited one other Caribbean Island (Grenada), a trip to Antigua was much anticipated. We were based between Falmouth and English Harbours.
Prices were higher than anticipated but most items have to be imported. All of the restaurants we visited were good - high standards and some superb locations. Check-out Johnny Coconats located at the slipway, English Harbour - fabulous location for dinner and great food.
Car rental is essential to see the Island and everything written about the roads is true - look out for sudden speed bumps and holes, plus boy racers. Generally driving around is easy but don’t count on signs to your destination - it’s a voyage of discovery until you know where everything is.
Antigua Airport is not the best and be prepared for delays both on arrival and departure. When leaving, I suggest you check-in and spend your time at the 'Sticky Wicket' opposite the Terminal - air conditioned and good food/drink.
Finally - mosquitoes are small, don't make much noise and are aggressive. Make sure you take plenty of insect repellent and use it immediately or you will be nursing bites for days, esepcially on the legs!
Summary - a great place for a holiday. The locals don't smile too much when you first meet them, but they will open up once they get to know you.

Falmouth Harbour is a beautiful location, with a very good mix of local life and facilities, in a superb setting.
