Hua Hin is a fantastic holiday destination if you're looking for the real Thailand. It's not too commercialised and feels like a real town rather than just a resort. The people are extraordinarily pleasant, nothing is too much trouble and everyone is only too willing to help out and have a chat. The restaurants are excellent, the food unbelievably cheap and the standard of cooking is amazing, my advice would be to always eat local and avoid the obvious 'smart' tourist eating places, you'll eat some of the best food in your life at these small, basic places.
The beach is another great place to find bars and eating places set up, really basic but just great, and with the Gulf of Thailand as your backdrop what more could you ask for?
There's plenty to do in Hua Hin without it being 'busy'. Just a few kilometres out of town and you'll see temples and monastaries, markets and of course more golf courses than you could play in a week! It really is a paradise on earth and we love it so much that we're having a house built and will be living there for the rest of our lives! Can't recommend it more than that!

We didn't like Hua Hin. We felt that generally apart from the delicious food and the obvious Thai features like the beautiful temples we could have been anywhere in Spain. This was our third destination In Thailand on this holiday and it was a disappointing location to finish a wonderful holiday. I was aware when booking that it was a slightly larger resort but the guide books did not prepare for the reality. We do however appreciate that everyone looks for different things in a holiday destination and that some people may love it. There was also quite a seedy element starting to creep in to the resort which was negative. On a positive note the beach had beautiful white sand but was too busy even in June. We prefer unspoiled and peaceful anytime,

Not the real Thailand as due to large expensive hotels a lot of tourists and prices higher accordingly. A good start for the novice Asia traveller before heading somewhere more remote.

Hua Hin is a great holiday destination, obviously it is getting built up but it is still a friendly place, you can find the night life if you want it or there are plenty of restaurants if you want to eat and watch the world go by. Cant wait to go back

My wife and three teenage daughters spent Christmas at Villa Anita and had a great holiday.
Pick up from airport went like clock work as did return. The to Hua Hin was the only down side, its about three hours, after a long haul flight this is a bit of a trial but in the end more than compensated by the overall Holiday. Tip would be to relax, if you can sleep and let the taxi driver deliver you to the Villa.
We where met by Anita and her husband Russell who proved to be perfect hosts.
The Villa is large and well equipped with air conditioning in every bedroom, a well-equipped entertainment system with TV, DVD and Satellite. Bedrooms have plenty of storage and are equipped with three large queen size double beds. . The pool is small but perfect for a quick dip or plunge to cool off. There is a nice patio area where
We spend most evenings relaxing with drinks.
The villa is located about 1.5 miles outside of the main town and about quarter of a mile from the beach. Initially we thought this a bit remote, but once we had got our bearings and got used to flagging down any one of the million or so Tut Tuts we realised that it was perfectly located. Near enough to everything and yet still secluded quirt and safe.
Hua Hin is lively friendly and exciting. We where initially a bit worried about the reputation of Thailand’s sex trade, but we saw very little if anything to disturb us or to make us worry about our girls safety. By the end of the first week they where wandering on there own with confidence through the night markets and spending freely.
Restaurants are all good especially Thai. Average cost for a family meal for five with as many drinks as anyone wanted was about £12.00. Only bad experience we had was at buffalo Bills, over priced, poor food badly presented and the Pizza house at the Market Village. Lesson learned eat Thai, its cheap and good. Highly record the Oy restaurant, by coincidence nearest to the Villa. We kept trying others but few matched quality and value for money.
Overall great holiday great value for money highly recommend.
Tips
1. If you are going to eat on the beach, negotiate for the sun lounges to be thrown in.
2. Prices for all goods especially those hawked on the beach are negotiable. They normally start at three times the real cost on the beach and 30-50% higher in the Markets.
3. Restaurant Oy really is that cheap and good.
4. Tut Tuts are 100 Baht everywhere.
5. Elephant village good watch out when they park the elephants they will try and sell you over prices trinkets. Be firm but nice.
6. Local Tescos in Market village.

Hua Hin is a fairly large town, bigger than we expected, with a long beach with hotels right on the beach. At low tide the sea is shallow a long way out, at high tide not much beach. We hired a car from budget, but found the maps provided were not very useful, they were very vague. Stumbled upon Monkey Mountain, and Dolphin Bay more by luck than help from the map! Town itself comes alive at night, like a lot of Thai towns, with a busy night market, plenty of places to eat and drink. Generally enjoyed our stay there, but not sure if we would return or not.

This was our second visit to Hua Hin, and that first with our three teenage daughters.
Hua Hin doesn't have the extensive nightlife of Phuket or Pattaya due to the King having his palace in Hua Hin. This means that there is an increased number of police everywhere, and as a consequence we all felt extremely safe at all times. This was the main reason for us staying in Hua Hin.
There is the usual type of tourist activities to undertake (elephant riding, golf, beach, island adventures (Ko Talu is about 3 hours by car/boat), ATV riding, etc), but the best thing for our family was the shopping at the various malls and night markets. Overall the quality was very good at reasonable prices.
Everyone is Hua Hin seems to recognise the importance of tourists, and as such are very happy to be of assistance in any way possible. I got the feeling that there may not quite be enough "action" for some people, but for my wife and three teenage daughters, it was perfect.
