We had visited Icemeler briefly on a visit to Turkey 6 years ago and found it to be fairly quiet and relaxed and smaller Turkish resort. Having stayed there for a fornight this year we were taken aback at the way it had expanded, altough I am sure it is still probably considered one of the smaller turkish resorts.
As we had 2 older teeangers with us we found the resort and the position of our accomodation suited our requirements (quiet enough for the us oldies/adults and lively enough and SAFE for the younger generation). Slightly more upmarket than Mamaris which is a few miles down the road, would not have felt as relaxed with teenagers being out on thier own in Mamaris). Very nice beach (proper sand) plenty of sunbeds and some attentive waiters happy to serve your drinks whilst lying on them. Lots of opportunities to book boat trips, turkish baths, jeep safaris etc.
Good compromise destination if mixed age groups travelling.

Icmeler is a slightly quieter suburb of Marmaris. I have travelled to Turkey on many occasions and in fact own a property myself. I have avoided Marmaris and Icmeler so far as I always imagined them to be very busy and commercial. I'm sure in the height of the Summer both towns will be busy, but they're beautiful!
This was our first time in this area and we were completely stunned by the gorgeous scenery. It is a very mountainous area and incredibly green. Worth doing a little exploring to see some of the best views ever, and as I am scottish I do not use this phrase lightly!
We loved the marina area in Marmaris and spent a lazy Sunday afternoon in a restaurant eating very reasonably priced fresh fish washed down with lovely wine, the wandered round the yachts. How the other half live!
We would all like to return to Icmeler or Marmaris in the Summer to get a different feel of the area and are sorry it's taken us so long to get round to visiting.
A vibrant resort
I recently returned from Icmeler where I stayed in the Abacus Metropol Hotel in October 06. It appeared that the hotel was winding down for the winter as the food was not too good, the entertainment was almost nil as were the drinks on the bar. But the hotel itself was very clean and comfortable.
Icmeler is a vibrant resort. All the locals were very friendly and went out of their way to make you feel at home. I would imagine it to be alot more lively in the summer.
All the excersions are very well worth doing but do go to the local tour operators as the tours are much cheaper, and they are safe so long as you use an operator that is registered.
Icmeler is a place I will definitely visit again next year

Heaven on earth
Icemeler is heaven on earth. It has lovely food, fantastic people, great weather and a beautiful beach.

To experience authentic Turkish culture and traditions in a well-equipped and beautiful resort. Five miles south of the massive tourist destination of Marmaris, Icmeler is located in a pretty bay, framed by verdant countryside. The beach stretches for miles and the town is renowned for its friendliness and excellent restaurants. There's plenty of water sport too. Local building regulations mean it hasn't turned into a high-rise sprawl.
How much will it cost?
Britannia, Monarch, British Airways, Lufthansa and Turkish Airlines run regular flights to the nearest airport at Dalaman, two hours 15 minutes from Icmeler. Return fares from London start from £66 but expect to pay nearer £100. A week's half-board package at the four-star Mirage hotel costs £245 based on two adults sharing.
When should I go?
Turkey gets blisteringly hot in July and August, with daytime temperatures regularly above 35C (95F). May and September are more comfortable. Winters are generally wet and cool, although days of clear blue sky are not uncommon. Temperatures in January and February range from 15-21C (59-69F).
Who's it for?
For families and youngsters (under 18 and over 25) who want something a little different from the homogenous and often overcrowded bigger resorts.
What are the must-sees?
Don't miss the Wednesday bazaar where you can pick up some cut-price local produce including honey, open-work lace, trinkets, herbs and spices, Turkish delight and onyx carvings. There's also a huge water park on the outskirts of the resort.
For history take a day trip to nearby Cedrea or Hisaronu or a boat trip to one of the many nearby islands including Castabus, Bybassios, Hydas, Paridon, Lyrma, Ceresse, Saranda and Timuns.
What will I spend?
Prices vary greatly, but as a very rough guide: a bottle of beer in a bar £1.50; moderate restaurant meal £20 for two people; a bottle of wine in a restaurant £8-9, a bottle of wine from a supermarket £4-5, 24-exposure camera film £2.50; four-mile taxi ride £8-£15, litre of petrol 75p.
