Travel Reviews : Lagos

Review by Julie Coote from Bangor

Not a place for 18-30 clubbers - unfortunately slightly older, t'was perfect for us. Enough life not to be boring but not so much as to make us feel boring.

Review by Cathy Holloway from Southwater

Lagos has some great cafe's around the marina, and a nice wide prom along the river. The beach is long and sandy, and has some great shell collecting opportunities at the far end. The people are friendly, and the prices are reasonable (we went when the euro was strong at 1.32) with coffee very cheap.

There's no beach type shops, which is great, they are all normal shops and nice to browse around. The fish market was interesting, and at the Saturday market, you can get some superb veg, locally made honey, cakes etc.

Review by Christopher Heaton from Knaresborough

This was our first trip to Lagos for nearly 10 years and we found that a great deal of development had taken place since our last visit. However, this has not spolied what is a great place to spend a few days. The walk along the promenade is just as enjoyable as it was before and the old part of town is a good place to eat at anytime.

Parking and driving along the "front" can be a nightmare with the local drivers double parking with impunity. Ignore the parking there and go around the back of the marina near to the station. There is free parking aplenty and it's only a short, pleasant walk around the marina and across the bridge to get into Lagos.

There is a great mix of old and new in Lagos, without anyone trying to "rip you off". We went on a dolphin safari which took us 12 miles off shore on a very fast and very safe boat with a great crew. We were out nearly two hours and had a very enjoyable and informative time for 30 euros.

The fact that the motorway now runs all the way to Lagos will I am sure increase the number of visitors and the quality of the boats in the marina adds to the up and coming air about the place. Yet it is obvious that the locals still care about the historic parts of town, a trip to the fort at the opposite end of the promanade to the marina will confirm this. Enjoy it now.
