Travel Reviews : Los Cristianos

Review by Chrissie Watcham from Farnborough

Overall its a nice place to visit and we go twice a year to relax. Nice weather but your constantly badgered by african guys selling crap and people bombarding you when your walking past restaurants.

Review by Sue Coffill from Bedfordshire

Los Christianos is a great place, beautiful weather, clean and people are very friendly. Would recommend it. Don't normally go to the same place twice but have been 3 times in the last year and going again next year, can't wait!! Good clubs and plenty of restaurants. Sunday market is great.

Review by sandra wilks from Mannningtree

Los Cristianos is beautiful and this was my third visit. I last came 3 years ago and work was in progress along the street behind the seefront. This has been completed and the seefront itself has undergone improvements. Everywhere looks very smart. The restaurants and shops are all good and the atmosphere is relaxed and friendly. The only critisism I have is of the street sellers. I understand they are trying to make a living but I hate being approached when sitting haveing my evening meal. Some sellers had laid their goods on sheets along the promenade and people were buying. Maybe this is something that needs to be look at. All in all a lovely resort full of nice friendly people.

Review by david aldous from diss

guiet & very relaxing close to some excellent restraunts enjoy a loverly walk down the hill to the town or the beach & taxi back in late afternoon to sit on the balcony & have gin & tonics!s & watch the sun set every night before getting ready to go out for a meal in one of the near by restraunts what more could you wish for.

Review by peter atkinson from cowes

i think at this present times it seemed a touch quieter than when we came last year, the town is a lovely one

Review by Sue Coffill from Bedfordshire

Fantastic holiday loads to do if you want, go-karting, quad biking, water parks, great places to eat or just relax. Weather great, island clean, people friendly and helpful. Have been two years running will definately be back for a third, even considering buying a property. Los Christianos is the best!!!!!!!!!!!

Review by neil and karen gallimore from andover

Los cristianos is a lovely location, clean quiet and not too busy. On the harbour front you'll find everything you need and a huge array of restaurants serving lots of different cuisines most at reasonable prices. Drinks by the plenty with the local beer being quite cheap. You'll find a few mini supermarkets but a lot of the english products are quite expensive, spar being the largest which you'll get everything you need. At the harbour front you may get pestered buy touts selling watches, jewellery etc. At various points you can catch a free bus to the aquaparks (siam and aqualand-fantastic dolphin show well worth a trip) and theres lots of excursion places that are helpful and friendly where you can buy tickets from. Shakespears bar opposite Dinastia is a small friendly and welcoming bar with great karaoke (with Ray King) that kept our children amused most evenings.

Los Cristainos was a lovely relaxing holiday which would suit most ages, if you wanted more nightlife then head to Player Las Americas.

Review by pamela monaghan from mayo

los cristianos is great value for money

and ideal for familys

Review by George Browning from Bedlington

Very hilly not suited for older or people with walking difficulties.

Review by Pete and Lynn Moxon from Rotherham

Los Cristianos is one of our favourite resorts and we have returned many times. It has a great mixture of accommodation and boasts a superb choice of restaurants and bars and shops to suit all pockets from cheap and cheerful to sophisticated and classy. Excellent walks along the seafront even as far as Adeje (if you have the stamina) with plenty of watering holes for a pleasant pit stop. A makeover in recent years has also given the stretch from the Arona Gran to the harbour a smart facelift. It's a lively, friendly and safe resort with fabulous weather all year round.

Review by Sandra Sharpe from Lake District UK

If you care to explore the parts of Los Cristianos and its surroundings where the local people go you will find many very different bars and restaurants with friendly staff who will bend over backwards to make your visit memorable, and also you may be lucky enough to come across some of the local fiestas and processions that are always taking place.

Review by JACKIE FRASER from ABERDEEN

Los Cristianos was very relaxing and enjoyable. We will return soon as we had a great time

Review by Sheila McGivern from Chichester

Siam Park is superb...if quite expensive.

Review by Carole Litster from Middleton, Manchester

Los Cristianos was lovely but some of the apartments are very high up and the hills would make it very difficuly for people with a bad chest or walking difficulties.

Plenty of places to go if you wanted an entertaining evening. Weather great but a little too cold to eat out on the balcony of an evening. (I was told that the weather this year has been particularly bad).

It is excellent for getting away for the British winter and I would definately visit again.

Review by Bryan Rhodes from Downpatrick

Los Cristianos is a great destination. It can be what ever you want it to be as there is something for everyone to do. Thoroughly recommned it.

Review by Eamonn & Theresa Carthy from Cork

The resort is well managed, clean, great selection of places to eat - for every type of food you could think of! Great value. All in all, a great place to take a break - kick back - and relax. Most enjoyable

Review by William Matthews from Gateshead

I will go again in 2009 because i love the place and the climate there but i will have to be a bit more carefull at what i am spending

Review by hayley lovejoy from crawley

Really nice area, have been afew times now.Lots of resturants to chose from and most are good value for money.El mirador is a safe, quiet area and most of the villas are unoccupied during the week. The roof top terrace and balcony are of a very big size and are both sun traps perfect for hard core sunworshiping.Villa is well equiped and of a good standard.Would definatly go back.

Review by marlene fallon from Hull Humberside

My husband and myself have done all long haul holidays never thought about Tenerife till we became older, sadly, this was our first time here and loved every moment of our holiday in los Cristianos coming back for xmas. Wish we had been here many years ago a special place in our book and do hope we can have many more years ahead.

Review by Susan Harvey from Tamworth

Los Cristianos is like a home from home. The first time we went we felt very settled and safe, although we are only a couple it is also ideal for families as there is plenty for the little ones to do.

Los Cristianos is whithin easy walking distance of Playa de las Americas but offers a quieter retreat, there are a multitude of restaurants and bars and I challenge anyone to try them all. Everyone is very friendly and eager to please, they can't do enough for you when you enter their establishment and we found all the food was of a high standard and at a very good price. There are many hotels and apartments but just a short walk to the town and harbour and you can sample some exquisite cuisine.

We will certainly return and look forward to re-visiting some old favourites and finding some new ones too.

Review by Emma Forde from Manchester

Amazing holiday with very informative and helpful hosts.

Review by Paul Scully from Peacehaven

We loved the seafront, harbour area and the Port Royale complex. Our only gripe is the constant touts with scratch cards and bogus surveys and supermarket intros. They have taken over from the time share people who used to drive you mad. They have turned me into Victor Meldrew!

Review by Christina Watcham from Farnborough

It is an all round place to go, something for everybody, be it adventure, relaxation or a family holiday! Its a lovely place to go and I go every year and twice a year!

Review by Margaret McIntosh from Scotland

Excellent choice of restaurants within easy walking distance - overall good value for money.

Review by Ruth O' Byrne Prior from Ratoath, Co. Meath

Los Cristianos is not for young teenagers looking for wild nightlife.

In April time anyway, it is full either young families or older ,possibly retired couples.

Review by June Mathieson from Aberdeen

Los Cristianos is where you get the best of both worlds. More peaceful than Playa De Las Americas but within easy reach if you need a livelier nightlife. All the apartment complexes and hotels look lovely and the streets and pavements are kept very clean. The trees, plants and shrubs are exceptionally well maintained and we were most impressed with the skill of topiary. There is an excellent selection of bars with excellent entertainment, shops & good restaurants and it's a lovely walk along the promenade all the way to PDLA. There is still some construction work being carried out along the promenade but the small amount of disruption will be well worth it once this has been completed.

We found Los Cristianos to be a very friendly and relaxing area and will definately visit again.

Review by cathy Nicholas from essex

Wonderful quiet place that is walking distance to beach and shopping in the centre of Los Cristianos. Nightlife is fun and exciting for all ages. Please be aware of street sellers, they appear everywhere!. Apart from that lovely area to explore and will be visiting again as we did not mange to do everything we wanted in a week !

Review by Sam Stewart from Newtownabbey

Great wee place to go to

Review by David Thursby from Newcastle Upon Tyne

Excellent location for short breaks and scuba diving.

Review by Robin Hudson from Doncaster

Los Cristianos, Tenerife is a lovely place for a holiday and we would certainly go there again. The whole area is very well laid out, and even the traffic roundabouts are beautifully planted up with shrubs and trees. The beach area is nice and not too crowded. The shops and restaurants are excellent - we didn't have one disappointing meal and we ate out every night! Most of the pubs had some type of entertainment and we were spoilt for choice. We had a boat trip to see dolphins and whales in their natural environment which was absolutely fantastic and we also travelled on the cable car up to Mount Teide. The views were incredible and I won't forget it in a hurry! There were many other trips on offer, but we were very lazy and as the weather was beautiful, we spent lots of time just relaxing around the pool, which was exactly the kind of holiday we wanted.

Review by Chris, Neil & Ria Tydeman from Northampton

Typical tourist area. Very few traditional spanish places. Watch out for people trying to trick you into hearing a presentation about a travel company on the pretext that you've won a prize.

Not somewhere I would have gone in the evening with young children, possible too many young tourist adults.

Review by Margot King from Reading

Too many old people

Review by Beryl Bauchope from Fifehead Magdalen

We found it clean & well looked after, no litter about, lots of lovely flowers & greenery, people VERY friendly and helpful, good choice of things to see & do. We found it well worth the money and not at all expensive, we had breakfast, lunch and evening supper out the whole week. We hope to come back, maybe next year as all 4 of us really enjoyed it and was not disappointed.

Review by Jean Burley from Sheffield

We have been visiting this resort for more than 20 years on and off and have seen many changes however there is something for everyone here whatever you may be interested in. Access to other parts of the Island is easy from here with many local bus services if you do not want to drive or use organised excursions. There are numerous sea trips and water sports also. Excellent resort.

Review by Jayne Cordy from Irby

Los Christianos has been our families winter sun holiday for the last five years. Los Christianos offers everything for all people , family and friends. We have always had beautiful weather both at Christmas and later in the year. The people are very friendly and love children. There are a whole host of lovely eateries that cater for all tastes. We all love the beaches and have fully explored the island. We find we can totally relax and unwind and are sure we will continue to holiday there for many years.

Review by Mark Skermer from Birmingham

All Los Cristianos needs is to get rid of the time share reps and take a few pointers from Playas De Las Americas where the shopping facilities, restaurants and beach front are a vast improvement, we hired a car and although the road network in and around Los Cristianos, Playa De Las Americas and Adeje are very confusing it is still the best way to explore the area. there were also many clean and tidy taxis available which I was told were very good value for money.

Review by visitor

I was very pleasently surprised.although very much a tourist destination,it still had a friendly feel to the place .I thought it an excellant place for a winter break

Review by edna pollard from sheffield

Los Cristianos is a very nice place suitable for all ages.

Review by david ellis from hitchin

Bit hilly for wheelchairs on some direct routes but going via the level promenade saves a lot of effort.

Review by Kevin Demain from Morecambe

Los Cristianos, a place to chill, a place to walk, but most of all a place to relax in the sun all year round.

Review by Les Scott from Banff

Los Cristianos, has everything we need. For self catering especially, you are never far from a supermarket or restaurants, or a variety of bars. Nightlife can be anything you want. Although we mostly walk everywhere taxis and buses are cheap. I like to go twice if not three times a year and always choose L/C and am always finding new places and things to do.

Weather is usually fantastic (for us anyway) Would even go as far as to say that I am definitley considering moving out there.

Review by debra goldfinch from London

Los Cristianos is a great place for a family holiday if you are not looking for anything too wild.Great for couples also as there are lots of bars and restuarants. The effect of ultra modern with trendy shops one end and the harbour and small restuarants the other is great for all taste.Los Cristianos is very clean and the locals were very friendly.

Review by Micheala Stobbs from Colne

We have be going to Tenerife for the last six years because it's got everything we want for a holiday.

Review by David Brown from Chester-le-Street

Los Cristianos is located in a bay with properties built from the beach back to the hills(mountains?) A lot of holiday accommodation is located up the hill and can be difficult walking for people with any movement problems. There are numerous bars and restaurants around particularly in the town centre. There are a large number of shops which provide a variety of goods and quality.

There is a blockpaved walkway that stretches from the far end of los Cristianos all the way to Los Americas with some quite stunning veiws

Review by Hayley Jackson from Hull

Los Chrisianos is beautiful and definitely the best resort in the Canaries. There is a good mix of people there and is ideal if you want a nice relaxing break in the sun to enjoy the bars, restaurants and beach. There is also good nightlife for the livier ones!

Review by Linda Hush from Edinburgh

We have been going to Los Cristianos for a few years now and think it is an excellent place for family holidays. The weather is always good and the resort has lots of lovely apartments and many good restaurants. I'm sure we'll keep going there for years to come.

Review by Beth Smillie from Larkhall

The resort is in the process of a major upgrade and while it was a bit shabby and run down in places, it will look a lot smarter when the work is finally completed. This upgrade may include public toilet facilities where people would be able to literary "spend a penny" (20cents).

While I appreciate that no area is 'crime free' there was a feeling that the resort was a fairly safe place to walk at all times. It was reassuring to see a police presence at all times.

I, like many others have no wish to be accosted while taking a relaxing stroll in the sunshine so it would be nice to get rid of the timeshare touts and their dubious methods of selling.

Review by visitor

We have visited Los Cristianos on numerous occasions. It has a touch of everything that appeals to us. If we want a quiet night in, meals are easily available from a variey of restaurants. Eating out with music easily found. Nightlife on hand. Weather perfect. Boating and swimming also excursions are plentiful. Irish pubs good fun.

Rental Holidays in Los Cristianos

Destination Guide : Los Cristianos

The quieter neighbour
Why go on holiday to Los Cristianos?

Overshadowed by its brasher, bustling neighbour Playa de las Americas, Los Cristianos is a considerably quieter resort in southern Tenerife, which just about manages to retain a semblance of local identity. Year-round sun, a nice beach and access to an uninterrupted string of pubs, bars, discos and kitsch souvenir shops mean you can have all the fun you want but still escape the bright lights and noise for a decent night's sleep.

How much does it cost?

A seven-night package with half-board accommodation and flights is from £220. Flight-only deals start from £80 and small, basic hotels cost from £20.

When should I go?

March to May (except Easter) and November are best for value. December to February is busiest and most expensive and the summer months attract a large number of Spanish tourists. But Tenerife has a good year-round climate ranging from 18C/64F in winter to 24C/75F in summer. Temperatures can soar to 30C/86F in August.

Where to start
Where do I start?

If you find yourself straying from the beach, take time to explore the rest of the island. Organised day trips run to the charming northern mountain village of Masca. The journey itself, along a narrow road rising steeply to a high ridge, is lovely and there are a couple of restaurants and bars to help visitors relax and admire the views, along with the other tourist hordes. Otherwise, you can do a boat trip to the island of La Gomera, go for a day's swimming and snorkelling at Los Gigantes, where sheer rock walls plunge dramatically into the ocean, or take a shopping trip to Santa Cruz.

Anything else to see?

Spend an evening at the Castillo de San Miguel where you can tuck into a "medieval" dinner with entertainment provided. Whale and dolphin-watching tours are in plentiful supply – if you want food and drinks thrown in, expect to pay up to twice as much. The nearby Parque Ecologico Las Aguilas del Teide includes an odd assortment of wildlife from eagles to hippos and crocodiles.

Are there activities and sports?

There's no better way to exercise your pins than hiking up sections of the 3,718 metre-high Pico del Teide, Spain's highest mountain, which features an enormous volcanic crater and other-worldly lunar landscape. Alternatively, the Teleferico cable-car will whisk you to within 200 metres of the crater lip. From the top, sweeping views of Gran Canaria, La Gomera and El Hierro will take your breath away. One word of warning though – remember to wrap up warm as it can get a tad chilly at this altitude.

Spot the nightlife
What's there to do at night?

Silly question. The nightlife in neighbouring Playa de las Americas is legendary. All-night bars and clubs, riotous music AND behaviour has turned the resort into a Mecca for young revellers. Los Cristianos is slightly more sedate and probably better for families.

Will children like it?

Beaches and sunshine are a winning combination for kids. But if they're starting to nag, take them to Octopus Park which is filled with water slides, or to a nearby camel ranch. Free buses are often arranged to take tourists to these attractions.

What's the food like?

There are plenty of cheap eats if your taste is of the chips-with-everything type. In fact, fast food, all-day British breakfasts and pizzas will make you feel like you never left home. Look hard though and you'll discover some excellent fish dishes and tapas restaurants. Latin American and Muslim influences are also detectable. Many dishes are served in a spicy mojo sauce made with red chilli peppers.

What should I buy?

Tenerife's status as a tax haven makes electronic goods a worthwhile bargain, along with perfume, tobacco and alcohol. Local crafts include leather, linen tablecloths and jewellery.
