Lucca is a beautiful and fascinating city. Having managed to avoid any real conflict the city walls are amazingly intact and make a wonderful first impression. The city is somewhat of a labyrinth of narrow winding streets. For about 20-30 Euro you can get a horse drawn carriage to take you around the city showing you all the major sights. This is well worth the money as it does help you get your bearings. Avoid having lunch in the Amphitheatre. The prices are high and the standard is not as good as expected. Head for Ristorante Giglio in Piazza del Giglio. The food is amazing at very reasonable prices and the service is wonderful. The Sea Bass and Gnocci are the best I have ever tasted.
