I love the Costa del Sol so I am probably biased. I took my sister in law on her first ever visit to Spain and she loved it too. We walked most of the beach (on different days) from La Cala to Las Chapas and also did some day trips on the local bus from Fuengirola across to Marbella. Next time I will take her to Estepona as well. I also recently stayed in Ataylayas de Riviera, but much preferred being beachside and I think the shops and bars were much more accessible.
