We visit Malta every year and found that since we always travel in a party of at least 6 we always rent our own villa with swimming pool. Its a great location and Naxxar is a beautiful quiet town.
There are many nice villas for rent here so you cannot go wrong easily. What we also recommend is to rent a car rather than travelling by buses as they can be very time consuming. We always rent ours from Active car rental http://www.malta-car-hire.com since they offer very good car hire rates and a wide range of modern cars. Sometimes when we arrive late at night we take one of their private airport transfers since the company has a partner taxi company www.swanseacarhire.com who offer a reliable malta airport taxi service at good rates.
Restaurants in Naxxar are quite good buut you can easily run down ti Bugibba or Mellieha if you have your own car and explore the many options in that area. You are also very central so you can easily get down to St Julians and Sliema.
We hope the above recommendations help and wish you all a great stay in Malta

Naxxar is a typical medium sized hilltop village/town consisting of an older core of centuries old winding narrow roads, fully of limestone built picturesque townhouses close to the imposing church, supplemented by more recent construction in the outskirts. It's size means that all conveniences may be found within a half mile radius of the church, such as supermarkets, chemists, doctors' clinics, ironmongers, typical village band and political clubs (bars, all serving very affordable beer and wine!) and a couple of decent restaurants, wine bars, pizza/kebab places, and a Maltese "Pastizzeria" serving the must-try hot Maltese ricotta-cheese "cheesecakes" and crushed-pea "peacakes" apart from other typical take-away savoury snacks, in the main available for pennies.
Naxxar also offers the noble and opulent Palazzo Parisio which is open to visitors (at a charge), several other historic sights in the vicinity, and just down the road is Mosta with it's very well visited Mosta Dome (church).
Naxxar is only around 10 minutes' drive to Sliema and St Julians, the nearest beaches/seaside towns also boasting plenty of nightlife and restaurant/entertainment options. Historic Mdina (Medina) is literally visible from Naxxar and practically anywhere in Malta is within 20-25 minutes maximum drive, thus it is an excellent base from which to explore the Maltese Islands.
