| | | | The Port -- Love it or Hate it
The centre of Parikia is the activity hub of the island, everyone passes through at one time or another, even the few who arrive by air. Most people want to get away from the hustle and bustle of arriving and departing ferries. Some people make it a point to come by and watch all the activity.
Just as Paros has something for everyone so does Parikia. Large supermarkets on the peripheral road, boutiques, antique shops and traditional hardware on the narrow market street--tourists and locals are not separated. You can motor launch to the better beaches or walk to the nearby ones. Some island hoppers never leave Parikia and think they have experienced the whole island. They also rate it highly among the other islands.
Everywhere you find authentic antiquities; the night clubs line the river bed; the main church has Plexiglas in the floor showing the ancient pillars of previous construction--the story never ends . . .
