Playa de las americas,Has everything for everyone,Beaches for children,Good food,Good night life,If you want it,Loads for the children to do,Tenerife is a fantastic place for all ages .... Sunshine garuanteed all year round ...As a familly of 4 we have loved and grown up together on holidays there for years...and will do for many more

Review by Olive Byrne from Dublin

The perfect holiday to relax and enjoy the warm sunshine. Bars and restraunts cheap and entertaining and are all within a short walking distance. The long walk along the promenade is a must. A holiday here would suit any age group and the nightclubs and disco-bars are also not too far away. Taxis are also very cheap. Overall I would have to give 8/10 for this holiday. The only negative comment would be the amount of 'lucky lucky'men selling sunglasses and watches who seem to appear almost constantly (even when your eating your meals!) and the people hounding you to eat/drink in their establishments (handing out flyers, leaflets and scratch cards). This however, would not put me off visiting Tenerife again, infact I am returning in June this year!!

Review by Maureen McCaughan from Coleraine

Playa de las Americas is a very good location for all age groups. We were in a hilly area which I loved because I can easily walk up those hills but I noticed lots of much older people doing the same thing at their own pace. I loved the fact you really couldn't get lost, even with my hopeless sense of direction. Just go up to the top and you will eventually get down...the many pathways with steps cater very well for pedestrians. The bars and restaurants are varied and there is lots to suit all pockets and tastes. The attention to looking after the public parks is noticable. It all looks very well kept and attractive with beautiful plants, no litter and a feeling of security with all the public lighting at night. Tenerife is our favourite island for a winter holiday and we hope to go there for many more years.

The promanade walks are several miles long.A little busy in places but there is no hurry! Runners and joggers

will find the 2.25 miles of undulting trail and road quiet and pleasant. The surfing looked very good

and the beaches are safe and clean.

We enjoyed Playa de las Americas, it was relaxing for seniors at this time of year(January) and we would certainly go again. The weather was beautiful and not too hot. Excellent restaurants and shopping.

Review by Jeanette Robertson from Troon, Ayrshire, Scotland.

Playa de las Americas is a lively resort, and although you will always get the touts selling you watches, glasses, and various other things, a polite no thank you and keep walking has always worked with me, they are only making a living the only way they can, and like our big issue sellers in our Country, a polite refusal never caused any harm. Just a word of warning, if you stop to look at the goods, be prepared, as once they have your attention and your interest on any item, it is harder to get away from them. Go with an open mind, avoid unlit areas at night and be alert, but again you would do this in your own Country. Have a great time, the sun is shining, the majority of people are friendly, helpful and fun, and the nightlife and entertainment is amazing.

And there was me thinking that Tenerife was Blackpool in the sun. How wrong could i have been !!!!! I had the misconception that i was going to an island that was just for youngsters out on the lash and on the pull.Dont get me wrong, if you want a top night out clubbing its there but you wouldnt know it during the day. I took my family of 9 (yes 9) including myself with kids ranging from 15 down to 6 years old. Water Parks in abundance, Go Karting,a beautiful harbour (i love boats),plenty of swimming pools you can go in and best of all the beaches were spotless. 95% of the bars that you go into have entertainment in them (which was usually very funny) and there is quite a wide range of food available in the restaurants. Only bad thing that i could say about Tenerife is that we had to come home !! After years of being reluctant to go there i now realise that we have missed out, but i never look back and will definately be returning

BOOK UP NOW !!!!!!!!!!

The area we we stayed in Tenerife was nice and quiet, value for money, sun was always shining, locals were friendly just what we were looking for for a relaxing holiday.

Review by Eric Greenhalgh from Wigan

Must admit, I'm a Tenerife/Playa de las Americas adict. I try to go twice a year if possible! Having just returned, we've noticed a tremendous hike in prices and much reduced value for money. The financial downturn we're all facing has reached Tenerife and I'm not sure how it will fare in the long term. Once people turn their backs and go to other resorts it may be difficult to tempt them back. The bar PR's and the street corner touts can become very tedious after a while and I can imagine that the incessant novelty and watch sellers could test the best nerves. It seems that everyone just wants to take your money away from you and give a much reduced service in return. I'm disappointed, as you can tell and I only hope that I feel a little better after my next visit. If I'm feeling bad about Tenerife, then it must be bad! I've always loved the place and felt at home there!

Location of apartment at Playa de las Americas ended up perfect for our family group which included a range of ages from 45 to 15. Plenty to keep both young and old happy. Easy to locate value for money cafes and pubs and equally easy to locate finer quality restaurants, etc. Choices between tacky mememto shops (well you've just got to!) and designer shops. Fantastic accessible promenade walks between all the beaches right along to Los Christianos. We did this during the day and also in the evenings to watch spectacular sunsets from Hooters! Our family liked to watch the surfers whilst drinking a cool beer! We also found Tony Romas up the road from Hooters and had a special birthday meal at Garibaldis where we were made to feel very special (and got just a bit tipsy on the measures of our after dinner liquers!) - listening to the live piano player was lovely - what a night to remember! We ate in several of the restaurants upstairs from the dancing water fountains but they didn't blow us away unfortunately - Bianco took so long to serve us we almost gave up but I have to admit that the quality of the food was exceptional (well done Chef, if not the marching waiters/waitresses). Like most places value isn't perhaps what it used to be but still good times to be had. If you are willing to search along both extremeties (Los Christianos direction and the other way) you will find plenty deals like a pint for a euro. We weren't particularly looking for that sort of deal and were pleased enough to experience really good service at good value prices like at the Jardine (chinese) behind the posh shops next to the Highlander- where they have a vegetarian menu and remembered various family members each time we went. Good friendly service is what can make a holiday special and then you don't mind parting with your money! I'd go back to Playa and would recommend it to others - especially anyone infirm or wishing to use motorised scooter/wheelchair, etc. We used Orange Badge for our transfer from the airport as we had a party of 5 with all the luggage which would not fit in a normal sized taxi. Orange Badge/Orange Bus were very helpful and friendly and I would highly recommend them - book online before you go! I have recommended Playa to one of my workmates who is disabled as it is an access friendly place (although probably accessible toilets will be difficult to find - the Orange Badge website has a note of some of them!). Go to Playa - walk along the promenade at sunset - drink a cool beer whilst watching the surfers....jump on the bus (Titsa from the station - reliable on time and straight forward) to visit the Capital and get a little culture....listen out for fireworks any night of the week (3 times whilst we were there!) and have a great time...just make sure leave a little room in your suitcase for the bargains from Zara and Mango and maybe a few handbags or pairs of shoes (well, a girl's got to!). Enjoy!

It's very hilly in places with quiet a few sets of steps to negotiate around the northern end of the promenade in particular. THERE IS A DISTINCT LACK OF PUBLIC TOILET FACILITIES ALONG THE BEACH AREA.

Review by Janice & Christine Ballingall from Stewarton

I could use a lot of the above words to describe Playa de las Americas, but I chose varied because I found it to be a mixture of many of them depending on what part of the resort I was in. For example, I found the area around Veronica's and "the strip" a bit scruffy and rundown, but the food and drinks prices seemed cheaper. The area around the Parque Santiago complexes and Playa las Vistas beach was more upmarket and consequently more expensive.

The beaches were fairly crowded and expensive for loungers, drinks and snacks. Shopping was good value with plenty of variety and the local people were very friendly.

We found the malibu apartment a very relaxing place to be, Yet knowing we were only a 10 minute walk away from livelly night life, made it great for hott summer nights well winter in uk...we would certainly go back

Review by Ann Campbell from Leeds

Playas de las Americas has it all. It is all things to all men (and women and children). With beaches where kids can play, adults can lounge, or the more adventurous surf or paraglide - and the weather to go with this lifestyle, this resort offers the complete daytime beach experience. When the sun goes down you can pay your money (though not too much most places are great value) and take your choice. Want a chic upmarket restaurant? - well they are here; want a good value place to eat that caters for the whole family kids and babies included? - yes in abundance; want to be entertained as you relax into the small hours? - no problem; want to sing your head off in a Karaoke bar? - fine; want to dance and cavort with a stag or hen party? - yep this too. Restaurants are just everywhere, for family entertainment try the area known as "The Patch" or around the San Eugenio Shopping Centre, for the younger and more energetic the place to be is at the Veronicas Centre or Starcos Centre.

There are trips to take from Whale and Dolphin watching on the high seas to wildlife parks on dry land. Not to mention the trip up Mount Teide, Spain's highest peak - take some warm clothing the temperature drop is astounding as are the views.

A four hour plus flight can seem daunting for those that are more used to visiting mainland Spain but with in-flight movies or a good book the time just flies by - ok not a great pun but you get the point - and with Playa de las Americas just a 10 to 15 minute taxi ride from Tenerife South (Reina Sofia) airport it really is a resort worth making that little extra effort to get to.

Review by Lesley Siverns from Woleverhampton

Found timeshare touts still about - and very annoying! The worst thing is there are still people out there stupid enough to believe that they have 'just won the star prize!!!' The new pedestrianised area in and around Playa is far better for both the older and disabled visitors, alot less noisy too. It seems that the younger generation has found somewhere else to play! Shopping is the Safari Centre is fabulous, even better if ur partner is a millionaire though! The Star of India is excellent on the second floor as is Tepanyaki Japanese Restaurant, both can be pricy if you go overboard, but specials on the menu are well worth trying, with similar prices to the UK. Shp around for your drinks as some bars are maybe twice the price as is shown on boards outside - and always go for the local spirits, but watch them pour into glass without ice to check what ur getting then add the ice later!! All in all had agr8 time and will be going back, but not in the too near future.
