After several years absence, what a pleasure Playa del Ingles still is! The dunes, the nightlife, to the quiet contemplation of the comfortable apartment, it was all very heady! And we just love eating as the locals do. It doesn't have to be expensive retaurants; those can be reserved for special occasions as we did for Valentine's night when we had the most superb meal at Merlins. The staff really pushed the boat out and made an extra effort to get into the swing of celebrations. Their costumes were incredible; the food divine!
We would also recommend Las Camelias grand buffet where you can gorge yourself silly for under a tenner! There are many local type dishes available and this is the nearest thing to going native for those not too adventurous. A great pointer is the cleanliness of the facilities and the friendliness of the local staff. And these Canarians seem to be a tad more laid back and relaxed than their mainland compatriots too!
There are many places to visit if you are of a mind. Beautiful Mogan, the mountains, the capital Las Palmas and even a pampering spa session if you want to at Hotel Costa Meloneras at Faro.
But for our part we feel that the area of P.L.I. where we stayed between Yumbo and Cita is special and leans more towards catering for singles and couples (of all ages) rather than families; indeed families were a rarity especially out on an evening. We think this is about right since there are many other places locally that families can enjoy and rightly do so. For this reason, we tend to gravitate towards a holiday in this area of Gran Canaria when we feel the need of a quick getaway which we know and are familiar with, which we can also book relatively easily and can be guaranteed in under 4 hours flight time, sunshine, warm tempartures and a blend of the exotic and sublime!
It is over 30 years since we first ventured as young lads to Gran Canaria and have been captivated ever since!
Regards to you all and with best wishes,
Allan & Tony

The climate here is simply wonderful. We both have some arthritis problems and within four days it seemed like we had no such thing. We both found the holiday rejuvenating. Playa del ingles is clean and well kept and I'm sure we will be visiting again

Playa seems to be allowing Maspalomas take all the new investment and it is fast becoming a tired looking resort which is overdependent on people coming back for repeat visits

Place offers good quality hotels and inexpensive accommodaton for a relaxing time on beach to a vibrant night life.
