Our stay in Polis was a welcome escape from the constant whirlwind of our home city, London. The area had so much to offer with its scenic views, incredible mountain drives and crystal clear waters. It's easy to see why the area is starting to be noticed by holiday makers, with new builds popping up through lemon groves and beach promenades. We only hope this doesn't eventually overcrowd this peaceful Cypriot haven.

First time to Cyprus, lovely area, hilly and long coastal strip. Beaches rocky ad s wimming not possible in some parts due to the large rocks in the sea. Polis, small town, not much here but adequate - thought Cyprus overall very expensive so did not eat out much. One good supermarket in Polis - same sort of prices as at home. Driving in this area easy, some roads, especially in the moutains very rough - we had a four wheel drive and were very glad of it. Best trip out was across the mountains to Lara beach - rough road, but absolutely beautiful, lovely meadows full of wild flowers and a gorgeus beach at the end of the road - would not attempt in an ordinary car. Went to Papos for day - did not like it - very overbuilt and touristy - we came back to our area and spent the day in our little cove instead. Not a region to visit if you want the highlife though!!!!! I hope it does not get over developed as much of Cyprus seems to be.

Polis is a great place to go to if you're looking to chill out, eat some excellent food and let the stresses and strains of modern life just drift away. Don't bother going if you only want to party - whilst there are plenty of places to go at night for a meal and a few drinks, there's no pulsating club scene here.
The favourite activity is probably walking - from easy beach walks from Polis campsite to Latchi harbour - to the nature trails on the Akamas peninsula - to getting up in the Troodos mountains.
There are many restaurants, ranging from the simple (Mystery Family Tavern) to the top class (The Old Town - said by some to be the best restaurant on the island) via Finnikas, Moustakallis, Chix Chox, Archontariki, Mikkis - the list seems endless (like my waistline).
To help work off some of the food, there is also a recently opened tenpin bowling alley in the nearby village of Prodromi.
Also worthy of mention - if you want too keep up with English culture a bit - is an Irish Bar(??) called the Fly Again tavern on the coast road to the adjacent village of Argaka - where they regularly have themed nights to raise money for various English sponsored Cypriot charities (dogs home, neutering cats etc). The pub quiz in there on a Monday night is a hoot!!
My partner and I love the area so much we are hoping to buy something in the future in readiness for our retirement - when we're not over there, we will no doubt be letting it via Owners Abroad!

Cyprus is a good destination for British tourists, it's not too far, not too expensive, it is usually very warm & they drive on the left - which is useful for nervous drivers! The Polis region is completely different from the more 'famous' Ayia Nappa and attracts a more civillised & less embarrasing version of the British tourist!!
I've travelled a lot but this is one of the only destinations I would consider buying a property in & eventually retiring to!
Cheers, Grahame

The very best part of Cyprus in my opinion, still has much of the old Cyprus charm (although there is much development right now, you still do not have to travel far to escape it). Quiet coves, relaxing walks, great scenery and the food ........... WOW!
