If you are lucky enough to visit during the month of May, then you will be able to witness the flower festival of "Anthestiria", where processions of brilliantly coloured floats covered in flowers fill the streets in order to celebrate the oncoming of Spring and the renewal of nature and life - a celebration that dates back to Ancient Greece. At the end of May, the festival of Kataklysmos (Whitsuntide or flood) is celebrated, marking the end of the month, with traditional songs and dances, as well as other light-hearted activities such as water games on the beaches. In the late days of June, the area comes to life with music, dance and theatrical performances from around the world, when the International Arts Festival plays host to many a concert.
