Travel Guides: All Countries / Cyprus / Cyprus (South) / Protaras/ Konos Bay
During your visit to Protaras/ Konos Bay you must see... The landscape surrounding Protaras is famous for its windmills. If you have a chance then try to visit this picturesque landscape. If you travel to the outskirts of Protaras, you will find a small stone church named the "Church of Ayios Ilias" it is well worth a visit, if not only for the panoramic view that can be seen from the top. Another place of interest is the village of Dherinia, which contains three churches that are also worth a visit, however the village is best known for its views of the ghost town Famagusta - which once a major tourist resort but is now lies empty. A visit to the town of Paralimni can also provide a good afternoon out - due to this expansion in 1974, little of the original architecture remains. However within the Town Square you will be able to find three churches (the oldest and most interesting is now open to the public and serving as a museum) as well as an open air theatre. Although the town retains little rustic charm it makes up for it with its friendly atmosphere and attractive gardens, which look incredible when in blossom, making any visit worthwhile. Boat trips can be taken along the coast from Protaras to Cape Greco and Famagusta. There is also a regular local bus service running from Paralimni to Ayia Napa via Protaras.
