We enjoyed the historic parts of Side, but our main bug bear was the hassle received when we visited the habour restaurant area in the Old Town from restaurants as we walked around. Some were really good value and had great food - other not so good. We left our recommendations in the folder in our apartment - so just be a little wary! Also, wine is very expensive.

Side is definitely a place to visit!

Side is a very nice area with lots of activities for everybody. It is a very clean resort where you feel safe. The quiter beaches are fantastic. People are very friendly and willing to help you with directions and recommend activities. Locals are also very good for giving you lifts to and from your base if you use their restaurant or even their bar on the beach! Haggling skills are a must and can be quite exhausting if you are not used to it. The Euro is very popular in Turkey which was a surprise to us. When visiting restaurants in busy upmarket locations, it is always good to check which currency menu's are priced in - we sometimes did not and paid more than we intended (prices were in Euros and not Turkish lira as we thought), however, these are things you learn! The longer weather window of Turkey is a major plus and we will definately be returning.
thanks

Margaret

Side is a beautiful historic beach town. Plenty of places to eat, nightlife in the beach bars. Beach has plenty of bars alongsde and watersports, it is safe for children. Interesting ancient ruins which are easily accessible. Side is also a shoppers paradise, every type of shop and also the market which is by the ruins. Plenty to do for all ages and interests.

I've been to Turkey many times but this was the first time in the Antalya area. The town iself can be expensive and a lot of the restaraunt owners won't take no for an answer. Be sure to know how much you're paying if you eat in the harbour area as it can be very expensive and cover and service charges can be added to the bill, despite what you are told. However if you wander down the side streets you can find many wonderful traditional turkish restraunts that offer excellent value for money. We took the little tractor train along to the market and it's really fun and cheap to give the kids a break whilst passing the ruins at the same time. Be prepared to haggle on prices as your bill can be sometimes halved for goods in shops and on excursions. I was delighted with the beaches and the free transfer to and from the beach was a real bonus, I also found the watersports to be more reasonable than other parts of Turkey.
Personally I love Turkey and for anyone that hasn't been you should give it a try.

side was a fantatstic family holiday. all the restaurants are very welcoming and love children. Hawaii was definately the best restaurant that we visited. it had entertainment on every night, the staff were extremely friendly, and the food was beautiful, but very reasonable. the beaches close by were busy but plenty of sunbeds to go around. there was water sports available at all the beaches, and free buses to and from the beach. would recommend to families with children of all ages( as long as you can cope with the hot summers!!) we are planning to book up for next year

This was our first visit to Turkey, and certainly won't be our last. Side was an excellent choice for us, it's very family orientated with wonderful, welcoming, hospitable, kind people. The shopping is plentiful in terms of leather goods, watches, jewellery etc, the sales people can be VERY persistent, so be firm if you are just browsing, and remember to haggle before purchasing.
The historic sites and unspoilt scenery is breathtaking and I cannot do it justice in words! Go visit!
Finally, take currency (lira or euros) the commission is quite steep for travellers cheques!

Side is an up and coming location. We stayed on the Antalya side of the penisula and could not fault the location. My wife and daughters found the persistance of the shop owners in the old town very offputting and this prevented them from shopping. The people at the Imparator Beach Bar made our holiday for us with their friendly helpfull attitude. We WILL be going back there and are even considering buying an apartment their ourselves

Side is a lovely part of Turkey, only a short distance from Antalya Airport. Very close to Manavgat Falls which are well worth a visit. The local markets are great for picking up a bargain or two. I would definitely recommend this area to anyone thinking of going to Turkey.
