Travel Reviews : Todi Area

Review by Moira Parrott from Henfield

The Todi area is one of the most unspoilt places I have ever been to. Due to the hilltop locations, the many wonderful old towns and villages have remained the same for hundreds of years. The provision of large car parks at the bottom of the towns, with lifts to get you up to them, restricts the number of vehicles and it's a real treat to walk around beautiful old places without huge amounts of traffic and ugly modern buildings to spoil them. The area abounds with amazing churches, interesting art and museums and is a rich source of wonderful culture for the enjoyment of adults. On the minus side, although I'm sure there are some good walks in the area, we didn't manage to find any information on these, or on bike hire. Unfortunately there is not a great deal to interest young children either. Leaflets picked up in the Tourist information office in Todi describe nature reserves where there are nature trails and opportunities to observe wildlife for children. Unfortunately the locations for these seem to be so secret that there is no information about where to find them! Even after managing to track down a promising nature reserve we found the gate to the nature trail securely closed with a padlock and the bike trail we followed instead came to a very abrupt end after less than half a mile! All in all it's a wonderful area for adults and we will certainly return. However I will go prepared and do a thorough search on the internet to find walks in the area before I leave home the next time.
