We loved Valetta and enjoyed a concert at the theatre, a re enactment at the fort, the fabulous carnival and visiting the museum and the cathedral. We ate in the many cafes and restaurants. Still generally quiet in the evening but after a days sightseeing all we wanted to do was relax, enjoy a meal, admire the view maybe a short stroll. It is also the hub of the islands amazing bus system....we went everywhere. The city is more suited to those visitors who are interested in history rather than a resort. We came away completely surprised that there was still so much more we would like to have seen.

I was definitely fitter at the end of the holiday than at the beginning as a result of all the steps and hills in Valletta!

Fascinating city, somuch to see in the town and surrounding area, the bus service is good and cheap. I encourage visitors to get into the back streets and shop in the tiny local shops and markets, for instance a shop that just sells buttons and trimmings was better than any I have seen in London and it was full of local women and nuns all laughing and chattering. we also found an amazing bakers that I will never forget! You need to be fit to manage exploring the city properley as it is steep in places but well worth the effort. Watching the liners leaving grand harbour in the early evening was thrilling. Our visit at times was quite moving, the islands history is fascinating. Good restaurants and bars, again the best we found were tucked away, don't stick to the main thouroughfares.....EXPLORE !!
