Review by Frank from Wexford Ireland We have a fondness for Almunecar & surrounding areas (Salobrena, La Herrunda) it's closeness to the beautiful Lechrin Valley is an added bonus especially to appreciate the magnificent drives towards Granada - reluctant to submit these comments as an extremely enhancing aspect of the area is it's lack of overcrowding with tourists and an abundance of Spanish locals and Spanish visitors.
Review by Jennifer from Essex Almunecar is a great find. Within an hour of Malaga airport and with in easy reach of fantastic mountain villages where you can wander round pretty streets, some lovely lttle shops and finish with lunch in the street under a big tree, four courses, jugs of local wine and all for 9 euros. The Saturday market in Almunecar was one of the best I have visited, not to large but interesting.
Review by Jane from Standish As with many Spanish towns, the old part of Almunecar was very quaint. Very narrow streets & whitewashed houses surrounding the area below the Morrish Castle. The castle is well worth a visit and the musemn the old town is very tastefully done. However, the rest of Almunecar was pretty scuffy. The beach cafes were also superb. Better to go to Super sol in Salabrena. With a car you can travel further afield some very pretty, authentic villages that are not too spoilt by tourism. Fuentes del Almunecar, where our apartment was, was lovely, clean & tranquil. It was a 5 minute drive into Almunecar.
Review by J from Airdrie Almunecar beaches were very good. They were only ever busy on Sundays because many Spanish families spend the day on them. Most of the beaches we visited were covered in stones rather than sand but we quite liked this. There are swimming platforms dotted along the shore where the children can go to dive or go down the chute, our son particularly enjoyed this. We enjoyed taking long walks along the seafront in the evenings and dropping into some of the lovely beachfront restaurants. It was very relaxing.
Review by Chris from Polegate Almunecar is a fair size coastal town that is very popular with Spanish tourists. It benefits from subtropical temperaturres, large beaches, (although mostly stoney), a number of bars, cafes and restaraunts, an aqua park and some supermarkets. It has also managed to maintain it's authentic unspoilt areas which comprise of winding streets and idealic little houses. Don't be afraid to wander around in these, the locals are quite freindly. The ruins on the Castle San Miguel are worth a visit for the views of the coastline and there is also a museum and aquarium on offer. As mentioned this place is popular with Spanish tourists so some basic knowledge of the Spanish language helps a lot - don't expect everyone to understand English! Also, parking can be difficult, particularly late in the evening and the locals have a habit of leaving vehicles anywhere. Generally a pleasant and lively little resort and w ell worth a visit. ... more
