Calpe is almost like 3 resorts - you have the newer area with hotels/restaurants built along the beach, the marina  and the old town near another beach. Both beaches were excellent - clean with nice, white sand but very crowded in august. There are alot of spanish on holiday here and it is quite continental with alot of french, dutch and of course the brits. Found that restaurants were good and many do early doors menus- the indian in the newer part of town just off the beach was particuarly good. All in all calpe is an interesting resort with different areas to explore and good facilities.

The Peñón de Ifach is a Natural Park which is the symbol of the Costa Blanca. It is of volcanic origin and rises directly from the sea to a height of 332m and extends for 1 km. It seems unconquerable but through a short tunnel built in 1918 it is easy to reach the summit from sea level. You can see even Ibiza... The climb starts from the information office at its base. It was declared a Protected Natural Park in 1987 due to the great richness in flora and fauna that it holds: over 300 species of flora can be appreciated and there is even one called "the sylene of Ifach", which is only found there. There is a limit put on the number of people allowed to climb the rock at any one time, so arrive early during the busy months.
