Review by Michael from Broxbourne We actually stayed in Sesmarias which gives the tranquillity of a residential holiday resort which has close (drving) access to some wonderful beaches and resteraunts in Ferragudo,Lagoa,Carvoeiro and Portimaeo.
Review by Phil from Cardiff Carvoeiro is a small friendly town with some fantastic restaurants, we didn't have a poor meal all week - try the massive prawns! There are some upmarket restuarants with a good variety of food and plenty of bars providing snacks. There is a small child friendly beach with restaurants looking on to it. The local people are friendly and polite. It's quite a hilly area surrounded by lots of lovely villas. Taxis are plentiful in the town and cheap. The town is a good base for exploring nearby towns such as Silves (very quaint), Lagos (long beaches) and the rest of the Algarve. There were also trips from Carvoeiro for visitors who don't have a car to nearby towns and boat trips for dolphin watching and fishing. There are also some lovely beaches nearby - Marinha beach is stunning - the steps down to it are well maintained and not at all steep. Finally, Carvoeiro has an indoor market worth finding - lovely fresh fish, fruit and veg and an impressiv e butcher! ... more
