Review by Susan from Geesala, Ballina, Co Mayo, Ireland If you are a golf fanatic like my husband, then Hua hin is the place for you. They have amazing world class golf courses and I believe they are good value for money. On the other hand if you like a bit of retail therapy, then there are plenty of shops and markets for you explore. The night life in Hua Hin can get a bit hectic in the Binta Baht area, but there are also lots of good quality restaurants where the food is excellent and good value for money. There are some beautiful beaches around Hua Hin and if you travel a little bit further south to Dolphin Bay and Pratchup Kirikan the scenery is amazing. We stayed in Avalon Village in Hua Hin, which was very peaceful and relaxing if you did not want to venture into town. Car hire is also very reasonable and they drive on the left as in Ireland and Britain, but be careful of the motor bikes as they come at you from all sides. The people of Hua Hin are very friendly and I can understand why they call Thailand "The Land of Smiles". This was our second trip to Hua Hin and we will definitely be back again. ... more
Review by Helen from Glasgow We didn't like Hua Hin. We felt that generally apart from the delicious food and the obvious Thai features like the beautiful temples we could have been anywhere in Spain. This was our third destination In Thailand on this holiday and it was a disappointing location to finish a wonderful holiday. I was aware when booking that it was a slightly larger resort but the guide books did not prepare for the reality. We do however appreciate that everyone looks for different things in a holiday destination and that some people may love it. There was also quite a seedy element starting to creep in to the resort which was negative. On a positive note the beach had beautiful white sand but was too busy even in June. We prefer unspoiled and peaceful anytime,
Review by Marylou from Al Ain UAE Hua Hin is a fantastic holiday destination if you're looking for the real Thailand. It's not too commercialised and feels like a real town rather than just a resort. The people are extraordinarily pleasant, nothing is too much trouble and everyone is only too willing to help out and have a chat. The restaurants are excellent, the food unbelievably cheap and the standard of cooking is amazing, my advice would be to always eat local and avoid the obvious 'smart' tourist eating places, you'll eat some of the best food in your life at these small, basic places. The beach is another great place to find bars and eating places set up, really basic but just great, and with the Gulf of Thailand as your backdrop what more could you ask for? There's plenty to do in Hua Hin without it being 'busy'. Just a few kilometres out of town and you'll see temples and monastaries, markets and of course more golf courses than you could play i n a week! It really is a paradise on earth and we love it so much that we're having a house built and will be living there for the rest of our lives! Can't recommend it more than that! ... more
Review by josephine from farnham Not the real Thailand as due to large expensive hotels a lot of tourists and prices higher accordingly. A good start for the novice Asia traveller before heading somewhere more remote.
