Destination Reviews

Review by Julie from Leicester

La Marina was quiet as we visited in October. There is a definite community feel to the area as many people live in the urbanisation. Everybody is friendly and nothing is too much trouble. A reasonable distance from the airport and there is no aeroplane noise or disturbance at all. The beaches are too far away and unsafe to walk to as parts of the roads do not have pavements. Visitors should seriously consider hiring a car although we believe taxis are not expensive. The local beaches are beautiful and sandy, Santa Pola is particularly good as the sea is very calm too. Toilet facilities are lacking along the local coastline, we had to use cafes and restaurants as the few 'aseos' available were locked up. There is also a lot of graffiti in and around La Marina (we travelled as far as Alicante and Benidorm where it was just as bad). A good destination, reasonably priced.

Review by Sheena from Swindon

La Marina is a fairly built up area with more and more new villas and new shops/bars/restaurants being built all the time. But saying that, it is a nice area to stay. There is a large area that is left untouched, a farmers orchard, which has hundreds of trees. And at night you can look over and see other area of spain ....

There a few parks for the kids to play on, lots of friendly english people living in the area, and lots of english shop owners - which is great if you don't speak the language.

Also there is a couple of decent size supermarkets.

The beach, which is a 5 minute car drive, is a really nice beach with a bar and a couple of restaurants.

Review by linda from huntingdon

La Marina Pueblo is a delightful area of the urbanicacion, the residents seem to be mostly English and are very friendly. My apartment was situated quite high up and the night-time view of the lights along the coast was beautiful. There are plenty of bars, restaurants and shops all within walking distance but far enough away so as not to be intrusive. Marina village has lots to offer in the way of shops and places to eat and miles of gorgeous beach. I would recommend hiring a car when staying in the area as the beach is not really within walking distance and also a visit to Santa Pola market is a must! A short drive along the coast is Torreveija where a superb water park can be found. I have visited the area on several occasions, usually in June and September as these are the quieter months for tourism but the weather is still very hot at these times.

Review by Katy from Guernsey

La Marina is like a little England in Spain! Not a place to go to experience the spanish culture, however a convenient place to stay, offering sun, beaches and relaxation.
