Review by jean from Oxford U.K. Melaneros is the most attractive of the three main areas, with wide streets lined with palm trees, and upmarket shops and hotels, and plenty of walking opportunities around the sand dunes The whole area of Maspalomas is so extensive however, that to get from one area to another is much too far to walk, with many very steep roads. The car we hired was very necessary, but almost impossible to park anywhere near beach or shops.,
Review by member from Letterkenny Been there 4 times & loved it. Thought that last year the resaurants had got a little expensive but overall we had a lovely time. When we were there last year there was a loa d of stalls with music, crafts & food at Faro. This was really interesting & it is a pity that this kind of thing doesnt happen more often as it adds a buzz to the area.
Review by Richard from Boston We've previously been to the other Canary Islands - Lanzarote, Fueteventura and Tenerife but much prefer Gran Canaria. It is altogether classier with none of the tacky touristy features found in parts of the others. Scenically it's much greener and less like a building site. We much enjoyed coastal drives to the surrounding area and being able to enjoy a leisurely meal while surveying the stunning sunsets. And then we came back to Newcastle to minus 2 degrees............ Oh well, the memories linger on
Review by Fiona from Dublin, Ireland Maspalomas was relaxing and easy (once I had a car). The shopping, apart from cosmetics, is tatty beach-wear. The beaches were poor. Found a couple of excellent restaurants - though were fairly rushed from our table despite relatively high prices. Overall I thought the place was ugly, appallingly planned and there was nothing visually appealing about it.
Review by richard from sheffield Maspalomas is by far the best resort we have stayed at in Gran Canaria-it is an exclusive family orientated/couples resort but also would appeal to people of a more liberal mind set aswell. The main Beaulevard -the FARO , is full of classy restaurants/shops and looks beautiful, The Las Vegas Casino/Drag Show is in the resort aswell and is another stunning place to visit there, plus for the nightlife there are many good quality bars such as Funky Budda , Casta Cubana/Kareoke(mon-thurs), for families there is the Holiday World Family Theme Park with lots of fun rides to go on aswell as ten minutes away from "Sioux City" theme park (where the early 70's spaghetti westerns were filmed) to visit. If you're going to Gran Canaria- just go to Maspaslomas (but if you're the 18-30 type person go to another resort like Playa Del Ingles) FIVE STAR RESORT.
