Fethiye villa to rent details
The Villa
We’e had many wonderful villa holidays over the past few years. And when the opportunity arose to buy our own we wanted to create a home from home where all of those little ‘niggles’ you get on holiday are minimized. This was our checklist – hope it tells you about the house – our aim is to make it the best holiday you’ve had.
LOCATION:
Quiet surroundings with spectacular views, but only a 10 minute walk (on the flat) to the centre for bars, restaurants, shopping etc. We don’t always want to hire a car so less than 15 minutes by car, Taxi or Dolmus to the beach / big town. (200m to the top of the road you can catch the Dolmus which runs from 6am to 1am every 10 minutes to the beach and Fethiye for less than £1 (Oct 06))
PRIVATE POOL:
Gets sun all day, enough room around the pool for a sun lounger +cusion, to meet your needs for everyone. An outside shower to rinse off. (Available 1st May – 31st Oct)
A GARDEN:
South facing with grass and enough space to kick a ball around.
A TERRACE:
With plenty of shade from the midday sun and space to comfortably eat outside. Separate from the pool area.
BBQ and GAZEBO:
Make the most of those long, warm summer evenings.
LOUNGE:
With comfortable sofas to slob on, a rug for tired feet at the end of the day. TV and video with plenty of DVD’s and CD’s so the kids can escape the heat of the day. Video games.
AIRCON / HEATING: Not just the lounge but the bedrooms too.
INDOOR DINING:
We don’t want to inflict the noise from our boisterous boys at 7am on the neighbours!
SEPERATE KITCHEN:
It’s a holiday – forget about the pots until tomorrow.
OTHER 'STUFF'.
A microwave, dishwasher, washing machine and drier, Oven, extractor and hob, fridge and freezer, kettle, toaster, sharp knives, plenty of crockery and glasses, iron and board, 2 pillows per person, a cot and booster seat (no charge).
PRIVATE BEACH:
As our guests you have access to a private beach on the lagoon (Genc beach on Oludeniz), and can take advantage of a courtesy bus which will collect you from just outside the villa at approx 10am and return you at approx 5pm.
SHOPPING:
There are big supermarkets in Hisaronnu and Fethiye stocked with all the brands you see in Tesco. We have also arranged for a local shopping service, which will deliver every morning all the staples you require, it is a lot easier than carrying the water, beer, and soft drinks and is competitively priced.
Don’t miss the Monday market in Hisaronnu or the even bigger market in Fethiye on Tuesday. You’ll see why Turkey is known as the place where East meets West . You can buy traditional crafts like carpets, leather goods, and jewellry or 'designer' clothes and famous 'brands' at bargain prices. Remember in Turkey no prices are fixed and EVERYTHING is negotiable, haggling is not only expected its part of the culture!
If some days you just cant be bothered the small and friendly Apartment hotel across the road will welcome our guests and is great for breakfasts, snacks and even evening meals.
The Turquoise Coast
Also known as the Turkish Riviera the coast of the ancient counrty of Lycia offers the most spectacular coastline in the Mediteranean, wonderful culture and history, unbeatable hospitality and EXCELLENT value for money!
Temp range 25 - 40*c (May - Oct)
The pristine turquoise blue waters with tiny and picturesque coves, lush mediteranean vegetation and a summer of blue skies with hardly a drop of rain from May to October makes this a true natural paradise. The locals are genuinely the friendliest people with a culture and cuisine that is thousands of years old.
OLUDENIZ:
Quite simply this natural park is Turkey’s most famous and photographed beach – a wide bay of white sand curving round to meet a sheltered natural lagoon. The water in the lagoon is warm, still and crystal clear, making it it a wonderful and safe spot for children to play and explore. The Beach front has waves and all the activities such as watersking, scuba diving, sailing and jetskis you could need for an exciting holiday. But perhaps the most famous and not to be missed activity is the paragliding from the (6500ft) top of Babadag mountain. Sit relaxing at one of the many beach front bars watching them come in to land, or fly tandem if you’re feeling brave enough.
HISARONU / OVACIK AREA
Villa Arla nestles in the valley just 200m from the main Ovacik road which itself is reasonably quiet with a good selection of local bars, tavernas and restaurants, and a newly opened waterpark. The area immediately surrounding the villa enjoys spectacular views of pine clad mountains and traditional Turkish fields. Its elevated position benefits from a cooling breeze coming up the mountain from the sea which is very welcome in the scorching hot summer months.
Hisaronu is much livelier and the main street is a short 10 minute walk away. It has a bustling nightlife with an extensive selection of bars, clubs and restaurants catering for all tastes and budgets - a typical 3 course meal is approx. £7.50 (Turkish, English, Indian, Chinese, Italian, Mexican)
With its colourful boutiques it’s the ideal place to shop for holiday gifts as well as the best place to book any trips you may want to do.
FETHIYE
Built on the ancient city of Telemsos Fethiye is the provincial harbour town and more sophisticated than Ovacik, Hisaronu or Oludeniz and is a 15 minute Dolmus ride away. Always busy, tourism plays an important role but is not overbearing. It. is worth a visit to see the ancient Lycian rock tombs, the Greek amphitheatre and the Crusaders castle.
Or you can just browse around the shops in the narrow streets of the old town and admire the beautiful sunsets from one of the many restaurants or bars along the harbour. You can take boat tours of the 12 islands in Fethiye Bay or you can take a water-taxi to Calis beach, where there is also a waterpark. The Tuesday market is a worthwhile visit not only for its shear size but also for the myriad of vibrant colours and the vast range of local produce and products on sale (where else would you get bottles of live leaches alongside fake Gucci watches?
KAYA KOY:
The ‘Ghost Village’ of Kaya Koy or as it was known for much of it’s history ‘Levissi’ is approx. 10 mins from Villa Arla by car. This is the remains of a town vacated by the Greeks after the War of Independence in 1922 and setting for Louis De Bernière's "Birds without Wings It is located on a hillside and it is fascinating to wander around the deserted houses and churches and afterwards dine at one of the many fantastic restaurants. A visit to Kaya Koy in the evening is particularly recommended as this is when the village is lit up and evening mists settle, providing a stunning backdrop to a wonderful meal. Most or nearly all of the restaurants in the area provided a pick up and drop off service to your accommodation at either little or no charge. A few miles beyond Kayakoy is Gemiler Beach, reached by bus service or a taxi but worth the effort, as it's a stunning location overlooking St. Nicholas Island.
GOCEK
(30 minutes) - For many years the natural harbour of Gocek has been enjoyed and admired by yatchsmen from all over the world. Today the village and its impressive marina is visited by international travellers who enjoy the chance to stay in one of the most beautiful coastal settings in Europe. Sparkling turquoise waters are complimented by natural inlets and rugged soaring mountains. From Gocek marina you can book special sailing trips and trips to local beaches and nature reserves around the bay.
SAKLIKENT
A 40 minute journey either by local bus, organised trip or self-drive hire car. The attraction here is a cool, dark, narrow gorge about 300m high and 18km long carved out by the churning waters of the Esen River. You can gain access to the gorge by means of a suspended wooden catwalk - for the less intrepid, restaurants at the base of the gorge are well known for their fresh trout caught locally. Spend an unforgetable day here, either exploring the gorge or dozing in one of the large hammocks positioned over the cool mountain waters. In the summer the Turks come here to escape the heat and wallow in the cool, green calm.
Again if you feeling adventurous why not try white water rafting.
Lots of organised excursions can be booked locally. The surrounding countryside is breathtaking and great day trips include the trip to the "Turkish Everglades" at Dalyan, (The famous setting for the Humphrey Bogart / Katherine Hepburn classic ‘ The African Queen’. Also worth a visit are the remains of ancient civilizations at Xanthos, Tlos, Patara which is also the site of one of the BBC’s ‘Holiday’ top ten beaches in the world, and one of the few remaining nesting sites for turtles in the Med.
Further afield are the amazing ‘cotton castle’ springs and spas at Pamukkale, the Ruins of ancient Troy at Ephesus, and the incredible lunar landscape of Goreme.
