A world away from the hustle of the tourist hotspots, this is unspoilt Turkey at its best. Take breakfast out on the balcony, drinking in the view across the valley to the distant mountains. In this secluded location, you’ll hear little but the sound of birdsong and the occasional tinkle of a goat bell.

Yet the village of Uzumlu is just a short walk away through the trees and fields lower down the valley slope. Inspect the local hand-woven fabrics as they are made on the loom – you can even have your own piece made to order in a couple of days! Try some of the local specialties at one of the outdoor restaurants, and watch the world go by (slowly) as you sample the local wine.

The weekly market in the village square shows off the varied produce of this fertile valley. Before you head back to the villa, pick up a selection of kebabs, fresh vegetables and herbs for a sizzling barbecue on the terrace overlooking the pool. Don’t forget the excellent Turkish beer – and some more of the local wine. You can finish the day watching the sunset across the valley as you dine al fresco under the pergola with the stars above shining from a jet-black sky more brightly than anything you’ve seen at home.

With shaded paths and cooler mountain air, the wooded slopes around the villa are a paradise for walkers. This is the ideal base for visiting the ancient Lycian cities scattered in ruins around the hilltops and valleys of the region. The high Turkish mountains are so close you could almost touch them, hiding many almost forgotten ancient Roman/Greek sites, as well as the superb rugged scenery of the Lycian peninsula; forest slopes cut with fast flowing rivers - notably the Xanthos - and deep gorges such as Saklikent.

Nestling between coast and mountains, the villa is close to some of the best beaches in Turkey, such as Oludeniz and Patara. Sailing, diving and all other watersports are just 20mins away in Fethiye. And if you're looking for more energetic pursuits, you have a whole range of activities - from paragliding to river rafting - available right on your doorstep.
 

Villa Karatavuk is not only a rental property but our second home; therefore it has been furnished and decorated to a high standard and has all the home comforts you (or at least we) could desire. At 500m above sea level, the cooling mountain breezes are most welcome when temperatures on the coast are soaring.

The fully air conditioned villa can accommodate 6/8 guests in 3 bedrooms including 2 en-suite WC/shower rooms, plus a separate WC/shower room on the ground floor. A mezzanine floor above the living area is used as a small study/library and can sleep an additional two guests on a sofabed if required.

A wireless broadband connection is available if you really can't leave Skype or the email alone. (But do make sure anyone you talk to knows you're sitting by the pool in the sunshine with a cool beer in your other hand).

Set in landscaped gardens, at the end of a small road though the forest, the villa is newly built (2007) but in traditional style. It is part of a small gated development of just five detached villas with a large shared pool. The villa has private parking for two cars, and there is also a small visitors car park close by.

 

 

Our English-speaking local agent is available during your stay to answer any queries by phone or at the office in the village. He is can also advise on any activities or excursions you may wish to arrange. Airport transfer is available at £30-35 per party. Any special requirements can be ordered. Note that the villa is not suitable for small children under the age of 6, as the pool is quite deep. Car hire is useful but not essential. A regular, cheap bus service links the village to Oludeniz and Fethiye with supermarkets, shopping areas, banks, harbour and large selection of restaurants and tourist activities.

The villa comprises 3 bedrooms in total; 2 double, 1 twin, 2 of the bedrooms with en-suite facilities. The property also has 2 single sofa beds located in the Mezzanine. This gives room for up to 8 people. Bed linen and towels are provided for your use.

The villa has 3 bathrooms and 3 WCs for your party's use. Air-conditioning keeps the villa cool. Central heating keeps you snug and warm.

The villa has television dvd, satellite/cable. The music system will play cds, radio.

There is room for 6 in the living room and 6 in the dining room. The open fire can be used to create a comfortable atmosphere. To prepare food you will find a cooker, an oven, a microwave, a fridge, a freezer, a kettle, a toaster. You will also find a dish washer, a washing machine, an iron and ironing board. The owner has also provided cutlery, crockery, glassware, cooking utensils.

The villa is in a very quiet area. It has access to a shared swimming pool, a garden, a patio area, a balcony, panoramic views, interesting views, a barbeque. If you are driving there is private parking with the outside areas of the house having external lighting.

The villa is right beside swimming, walking, cycling, mountain biking.

Close to the villa you will find fishing, climbing, horse riding, historic sites, a restaurant, a food shop.

Within easy reach of the villa you will find a beach, sailing, water skiing, boat hire, wind surfing, skiing/snowboarding, scuba diving, a museum, a theatre/cinema, shopping areas.

Paragliding is available near Oludeniz, about 30mins drive.
