Large village house with swimming pool from May 2006
This beautiful traditional ‘Grande Maison’ house is situated in the tranquil and picturesque village of Belesta, set in the Midi Pyrenees Region of France. It will have a swimming pool installed similar to the one in the photograph and this will be ready for May 2006

The house itself offers cosy relaxed accommodation in keeping with its environment.

The house comes fully equipped to cater for up to 12 people and offers a comfortable base to explore the fantastic medieval region.

Whether you want to sit and while away the days in the garden or raised terrace, to more energetic walks and adventures.

The property is spacious and airy and the upper floors offer outstanding views of the hills and mountains beyond.

We have tried to equip the house to include DVD’s, video’s, books and games to keep even the most excitable children and teenagers amused.

Our aim was to create the ideal property that people of all ages can feel comfortable in and used our own experiences of travelling abroad with 4 children to create this home from home feel.

The tranquil and picturesque village of Belesta has 2 bars/restaurants, hairdressers, bakery, newsagents, post office, bank, butchers, chemist and grocery stores.

Just 2 minutes in either direction brings you to the L’Hers river, with its abundance of trout, upon which the village was founded.

Nearby are several famous prehistoric Grottos including Lombrives and Bedeilhac .

The nearby villages and towns all have their weekly markets and the old walled town of Carcassonne is only an hours drive away.

Activities
Local attractions:

Mirepoix

The wonderful unspoilt medieval walled town of Mirepoix is an absolute must. The timber stilted buildings are amazing to see on a quiet mid-week day.
In the evening the square is a great place to go with jazz bands and great restaurants (Hotel du Commerce is excellent).
Visit any Monday morning and the village is one large, vibrant, open air market with traders selling everything from home grown produce to jewellery and homewares.

Carcasonne

Carcasonne has a fantastic Medievel castle and village, all enclosed in a walled ‘cite’ and is the postcard picturesque location for the area.

Cathar Castles

Traditionally the fortresses of the Knights Templars who dominated and forged this region. Almost every town has a castle, some derelict, some still spectacularly alive. You could spend a fortnight exploring these and still miss some!

Dinosaur Museum

There is a Dinosaur Museum within easy reach where the children can learn the history of these creatures. It includes a live dig, where dinosaur fossils are being excavated from an old river bed.

Caverns

The caverns have some preserved prehistoric Cave Paintings, but you will need to book to see these.

Go-carts

15 Minutes drive from the house is a large Go-cart track which is very reasonably priced and will keep Dad and the kids amused. They also offer Quad bikes.

Watersports

There are several fantastic lakes where the family can swim, fish, hire boats or just sunbathe on the sandy beaches.

The seaside towns dotted along the Med give you the opportunity to swim, sunbathe or just ogle at the Yachts of the rich.

Crazy Golf

There is a Crazy Golf course just 10 minutes drive from the house where you can relax with a drink or meal while the children keep themselves amused for hours. You can even try a bit of Trout fishing in the lake.(all equipment is supplied by the owner)

Chalabre

The Castle at Chalabre offers medieval jousting and interactive shows. You can participate in all sorts of medieval activities such as Archery, Calligraphy, Chain mail making and more.

Forests

The Foret du Belesta is a huge forest within walking distance of the house if you are feeling active. With fantastic trails and wildlife. The whole area is a retreat for keen ramblers.

Pyrenees

The Pyrenees are on the doorstep of the village with scenery that changes with every turn. One minute you are in the gorges of the river Aude where you can ride the rapids, the next you are on the Plateaus with their spectacular views and soaring birds of prey. On further and you can ascend the mountains over to Spain or Andorra with some of the best mountain terrain in the world.

Andorra

Andorra is a non-EU country with duty free goods at a fraction of what you would pay on the ferries.

Ax Les Thermes

On the road to Andorra is the fantastic ski town of Ax Les Thermes where you can spend a day perusing the shops, taking in the splendour of the magnificent buildings or dip your feet in the natural spa with its’ alleged healing properties.

This is only a small sample of the activities open to you- We have not even touched on the wine tasting, great food, local hospitality and French way of life – We need to leave something for you to discover for yourselves!

Guest Book
Extracts from guest thank-you letters:

"We are just writing to let you know how much we enjoyed the holiday. The house was lovely and we found the rooms bright and comfortable.

It was very nice to sit out on the balcony during early evening and enjoy a glass of local wine!

We found all the locals very friendly and helpful, especially with our
very limited knowledge of French.

Many thanks as well for your advice on driving down, we found the suggested hotels great value for money and it made the drive down as much a part of the holiday as the stay itself.

We found Andorra, another one of your suggestions, to be very spectacular and took great advantage of the duty free.

Our only regret is that we did not have enough time to see all that there is – but we will remedy that in 2006 when we return.

Altogether, a great place to visit - many thanks"

Pete and Penny Nolan,

Staffordshire, UK.

Wow!!!! What breathtaking scenery and such a lovely house.

We had to write to you to say what fantastic value for money the house was for our October break – especially when you have 4 kids to take into account.

We found the locals adopted us almost immediately, to such an extent that our children were invited to the village Halloween celebrations. They returned with a bag-full of sweets each and huge smiles. We were amazed at how they celebrate it. Our children will always remember the warmth shown to them by the locals, they had a fantastic evening – and all for free!
It will be a holiday we will long remember – thank you
