The Jungle Retreat, Hikkaduwa is a beautiful self-contained upstairs apartment that is part of a home owned by a lovely Sri Lankan family. It is 2km inland from the coast and is west facing for gorgeous sunset views over paddy fields. Nightime is just filled with sound of the surrounding jungle!

The apartment can accommodate 2 people (a couple) and you can also choose to have meals prepared by the family, if you wish. Mahinda, the house owner, will happily arrange scooters, transport and local trips for you.  

Sri Lanka is a magical place of ancient Buddhist monuments, gorgeous beaches, lush green vegetation, clear blue skies, sunshine and friendly faces. The tropical beach cabana at Hikkaduwa is a great place to unwind, sample the local surfing and diving opportunities, and from where you can then start to explore this stunningly beautiful island.

Hikkaduwa is located 100km south of the country's capital, Colombo. The area is well-known for its coral sanctuary and the proximity of wonderful scuba diving sites to explore. With its unique beach culture, Hikkaduwa has long been the most popular diving and surfing area in Sri Lanka. In the centre of Hikkaduwa, a lagoon also creates a beautiful and safe snorkelling area. Further south, where the currents are stronger, surfing is the dominant water activity. The impressive coral reef runs just offshore and is populated by exotic fish and sea turtles that come ashore on this beach to lay their eggs.

Diving

The diving at Hikkaduwa is diverse and there is an abundance of marine life and dive sites to suit all levels of experience. Big groupers, barracudas, moray eels, dogtooth tunas, manta rays, lobsters & turtles are often to be seen just off the coast at Hikkaduwa. A large number of wrecks have floundered off the coast in this area over the years, adding to the range of dive sites available. The diving season in the south west runs from November to April and there are a number of well-established diving centres from which to choose with Blue Deep being one of the best!


Surfing

Hikkaduwa is a very well known surfing destination on the international circuit and annually attracts surfers from all over the world. There are plenty of good surfing points and although most of them are reef breaks, none of them is risky since they all have a flat deep bottom. The wave size ranges up to 3 metres during the season. The main point, known as the main reef has 'A-frame' shaped waves, which can be surfed in both directions. 

The apartment comes complete with:

* Beautiful four-poster bed with mosquito net.
* Large veranda with dining table and recliners
* Ensuite bathroom
* A kitchette

The cobana can accommodate 2 people (a couple) but we can also provide an additional cot, if necessary. 

The Jungle Retreat is an upstairs apartment that includes a beautiful 4-poster bed, kitchenette and en suite bathroom. The spacious veranda in front of the bedroom has a dining table (meals can be prepared for you on request) and two reclining wicker loungers. Panoramic views across the surrounding paddy fields are available from the upstairs veranda.

The apartment comprises 1 bedrooms in total; 1 double and 1 cots, 1 of the bedrooms with en-suite facilities. . This gives room for up to 2 people. Bed linen and towels are provided for your use.

The apartment has 1 bathrooms and 1 WCs for your party's use.

There is room for 4 in the living room and 4 in the dining room. To prepare food you will find a cooker, a fridge, a kettle. You will also find a washing machine. The owner has also provided cutlery, crockery, glassware, cooking utensils.

The apartment is in a very quiet area. It has a west facing garden, a west facing patio area, a west facing balcony, panoramic views, interesting views. If you are driving there is private parking with the outside areas of the house having external lighting.

The apartment is right beside fishing, walking, cycling, a restaurant.

Close to the apartment you will find a beach, swimming, boat hire, scuba diving, historic sites, a museum.

LISA says: "The Jungle Retreat is the perfect place for a couple to stay in. The owners, Mahinda and Samanthe were the ideal hosts offering just the right amount of privacy. They are very friendly and their son. Poorna, is a credit to them. The apartment itself was clean and well equipped and the owners provided anything that we found we needed, which was very little. They also cleaned the room on a regular basis. As with any where in Sri Lanka, the ants were a bit of a problem initially, but a few cans of Ninja soon sorted them out. Mahinda was able to organise our trip to Kandy which was trouble free and his driver was very friendly and knowledgeable. On our last evning there Samanthe cooked us a wonderful rice and curry meal which we all ate sat on the veranda. We would like to say a big thanks to both of them for making our stay memorable and we look forward to the return trip next year."
