Village house in traditional style, originally built in 1913 and recently renovated, located in the village of Serreta. Within 3 walking minutes one finds a local bar, a small traditional restaurant and a minimarket. The village of Serreta is surrounded by a forest with adequate sites for visitors to enjoy their pick nicks, and the ocean is also a short driving distance. Throughout the island there are street fests between May and September, including the traditional bullfights “on the rope”, an Azorean art where the bull is not hurt as in other bullfights. It is 20 driving minutes from Angra do Heroísmo, where you find a larger choice of shopping facilities, and 25 minutes from the international airport of Lajes.

The living quarters are to be found in the first floor, as the ground floor was reserved for warehouse, property consists of 1 double room, 2 single rooms, living room with settees, radio and TV, dining room, 1 complete bathroom, an equipped kitchen with table and chairs, and a surrounding terrace with garden furniture (table and 6 chairs) and a portable BBQ. On one of the sides there is a garden with flowers and a pasture field where sometimes either a cow or a horse will feed. If requested, an additional extra bed for a 5th person can be place in the dining room, as guests normally have their meals either in the kitchen table or out in the terrace.

The village of Serreta on the west coast, famous pilgrimage venue for the Festa of Nossa Senhora dos Milagres in September, stretches along the coastal road. The cult of ‘Our Lady of the Miracles’ is celebrated in this village since the end of the 17th century, with the erection of a humble chapel in which a small statue of Our Lady was placed. The present church of Nossa Senhora dos Milagres was consecrated in 1907 and continues to be the centre of all activities for the thousands of devotees who come from all over the island to participate in the most important religious celebrations of the month of September.

Serreta is also known as starting place for probably one of the most charming walks of the island leading through the Mata da Serreta, a sylvan park with luxuriant vegetation, cedar, laurel and eucalyptus trees, spreading on the slopes of the volcanic peaks of the Serra de Santa Barbara, a volcanic massif that dominates the western part of the island and also boasts its highest peak. The Mata da Serreta is part of the protected area Reserva Florestal de Recreio da Mata da Serreta and has an attractive picnic and recreation zone as well as some beautiful natural belvederes from where, on clear days, it is possible to see the outlines of the neighbouring islands Graciosa and São Jorge.
