Youll find the Castle of San Gusmè in Chianti, a beautiful medieval fortified village that appears at documents of the IX Century, following the road from Castelnuovo Berardenga to Baron Ricasolis Castello di Brolio. The castle, 465 meters over the sea level is ideally located among castles, villas and Chianti farmhouses and can be considered one of the most characteristic buildings of Tuscany.
San Gusmé, with its ancient arches and doors, its narrow streets and its beautiful buildings has kept intact the atmosphere of the 1200, allowing the tourists to live some unforgettable moments. The original name of the village was San Cosma e Damiano, Saint of the local church that dates back to the 1000s. There is also another Church SS. Annunziata that dates back to the XIV Century.

"The little town of San Gusme was an old defense bastion for Siena. Located between Siena and Florence, it served its function for many centuries unril the black plague changed the Tuscan politics in the Middleages.
Today that bastion is a lovely village perfectly preserved and remembering the old function it fulfilled so many centuries ago. The building is from the XV Century, and it is considered one of the oldest in the village. The apartment has kept the original fireplace and an arch dating back to the XV Century, it has been completely furnished following the Tuscan style. It is the ideal place for those looking for a little quiet but also for who wants to discover new places full of traditions and art in Tuscany.

 

This 50 squared meters apartment is the ideal place for 2 people willing to spend their holidays enjoying some peace and quiet. However, it can easily accommodate up to 3 adults or 2 adults and 2 children under 10. Its located at the second floor of the ancient and prestigious Palazzo Braschi (the oldest building of the Castle of San Gusmé, dating back to the XV Century).
The apartment, and the building itself, has been recently restored, keeping all the main characteristics of the ancient property: cotto floors and the original wooden ceilings and fireplace. Our guests might see themselves how accurately we have look after all the small details in order to keep the ancient atmosphere of the apartment and make your holidays unforgettable. Once in the apartment you will find a large living room/kitchen equipped with oven, fridge, freezer and everything you may need for up to 4 people.
At the living room we find a sofa bed and a bench where our guests can sit and relax in front of the fireplace. The bedroom is very spacious and bright and it is equipped with a very romantic wrought iron double bed and a wardrobe dating back to the 800s. The bathroom is all decorated in white and pink ceramics and it is equipped with shower. It is the ideal place for those looking for a little quiet but also for who wants to discover new places full of traditions and art in Tuscany.

For stays longer for three nights or longer guests can enjoy a complimentary bottle of Chianti Classico Gallo Nero, a typical Tuscan salami, a bottle of Vin Santo dessert wine and a box of delicious cantuccini a local almond biscuit.

In San Gusmè there is also a bar recently renovated for those who prefer to enjoy the Tuscan taste in a more informal way. There are also two areas with games for children and adults, and two churches. 5 km away there is Castelnuovo Berardenga, where you can find everything you may need such as: chemistry, supermarket, banks and restaurants. 2 km away there is Villa Sesta, a village famous for the polo club.

The owners were hospitable, kind and gracious.They were helpful and we relied on their superb advice regarding local restaurants, not one a bad one. We ate like kings in local and nearby places. We also spent time relaxing at the property with only the sound of frantic bumble bees to disturb our Tuscan peace. We enjoyed graden chairs and the table and ate foods acquired at the local supermarket and Chianti from the region--a dream come true. We visited daily a new Medieval hilltop town as well as Siena, San Gimignano, Monteriggioni, Montalcino, Pienza, Montepulciano, Florence, Pisa and Volterra, all an easy drive and using backroads rather than highways a delight. This holiday was for us in every way a pleasure and a delight. The property met with all our romantic expectations as did Tuscany! If one wants to have a vacation where one is self-sufficent and independant this is it exactly. The property is well appointed and charming with all the Tuscan charm and sense of antiquity one so relishes. This is a very real place and one can experience an authentic Tuscany here! "
