Casa Trina is in the centre of the old part of Torrox – a pretty Spanish village with white washed houses in narrow cobblestone streets, with cascades of flowers at every window. The streets in the old part are so narrow that it is impossible to get a car through them – if you do hire a car parking is about a 5 minute walk away. The centre of the village is a few minutes walk away, dominated by the church. In the main square there are cafes and restaurants with tables under umbrellas for shade, where you can have coffee, or beer and tapas – lunch and dinner! The village is very Spanish – and not touristy at all. In the mornings there is a fruit and veg market and various shops etc. Don’t forget the shops close at 2pm for siesta and open again at about 5.30 til 8pm.

Taxis: Taxis can be called by phone or can be found in taxi ranks in the centre of the towns. Taxis in Torrox will collect and dro p you from the main square (Plaza de la Constitution),

Shops: Nearest bread shop and separate grocery shop is down the street with the steps to the back of our house and turn left.

Nearest Chemist is down the steps at the back of our house and turn right (farmacia).

Daily fresh food market is held each morning 11am – 1pm in the ‘Municipal Mercado’ in the buildings facing the main square of Torrox Pueblo – Plaza de la Constitution.

General shop opening hours are: 9:00am – 1:30 and 6:00pm 7:30
 

The house itself had been lovingly restored and updated using quality materials. The front door opens into the kitchen / diner. The oven is also a grill and a rotisserie, there is a fridge with freezer compartment, plus all the equipment needed for cooking etc. plus table and chairs. There is one bedroom with twin beds and in the sitting room there is a double sofa bed. There is a TV – only Spanish channels. There is a video and a DVD player – plus various DVDs and videos for you to watch. There are some books for holiday reading in the bookcase, plus cards and other games. There is a folder marked ‘Info & Maps’ in the middle drawer of the sideboard. Phone numbers for taxis, tourist info and emergency are in the back of this folder. The bathroom has a good shower – hot water is turned on at the emersion heater in the cupboard in the hall. The roof terrace has fantastic views over the countryside looking to the mountains – the terrace has a table and chairs plus 2 loungers, the cushions for them are in the hall cupboard.  

Nerja is about a 10 minute drive away and has the world famous Balcon de Europa and the Nerja Caves – both well worth a visit. There is a good beach on the coast road between Torrox Costa and Nerja – a thatched beach side restaurant about half way. Nice restaurant for lunch or snack too.
Most popular are any of the coves in Nerja, or the longer beach at Burriana, accessed by road to the right on the other side of Nerja town. Ayo’s restaurant at the end of the Burriana does huge paellas at lunchtime. Playa Playasol in Nerja as you come into Nerja from Torrox along from the Nerja Marinas Hotel has a few reasonable and cheap chiringitos – beach restaurants. This beach is not built on like the Burriana. The beach at Torrox Costa is nearer and okay but maybe not as nice as some of the other beaches. It has loads of cafés and bars and a promenade to walk.

Lunches, snacks and tapas can be had at any of the cafés on the main square.

The Casino Bar on the main square does a very good 3-course dinner that isn’t too expensive.

For a more formal meal ‘El Figon’ is good – located on the street below the main square. Look for the sign.

Short drives up the mountains
Torrox to Frigiliana (14kms) Take the road to the right from the top car park and take a sharp right again.

Torrox to Competa (14kms) Take the road marked ‘Competa’ at the roundabout on the way up to the top car park.

Lovely drive up the Almijara mountains via Competa, to hill village of Solares. Olive groves for picnic stop en route.

Walks: Short walk in hillsides behind us can be started at the bridge on the Frigiliana road to the right beyond the top car park – cross the bridge and take path to the right.

A rambler’s path by the river gorge starts at the same bridge but take the path this side of the bridge in the direction of the mountains. 3kms on and you’ll reach a ford in the river for a paddle.

The village house comprises 1 bedrooms in total; 1 twin. The property also has 1 double sofa bed located in the living room. This gives room for up to 4 people. Bed linen and towels are provided for your use.
