The picturesque small harbour town of Datça, pronounced 'Datcha', sits at the end of a peninsula in the south west corner of Turkey – the nearest large towns being Bodrum (some two hours via ferry) or Marmaris at 75 km away.

It is surrounded on three sides by sea and is reminiscent of a small Greek island some 20 years ago. Datça is a town where life centres around the harbour - carpet shops, boutiques, restaurants, bars, an amphi cinema (and even a disco or two) line the harbour side. Watch the world go by at a harbour-side café, viewing an assortment of gullets and yachts arrive to drop anchor in this attractive setting.

Villa Kempin is situated in a tranquil area around a two kilometres steep walk outside of Datça town. We bought the villa after a wonderful family holiday spent at this resort in 2003. The holiday was perfect - spent amongst friendly people, in beautiful, peaceful surroundings and an opportunity to experience the 'real' unspoilt Turkey.

The villa was built in 2004 and forms part of a small, exclusive family-run holiday resort. The resort consists of 11 other villas, 9 apartments, a large pool with children’s area and pool-side bar and restaurant. If you wish to come with another family we can organise for you to rent another villa at the resort for the same period. Twice-weekly servicing is included in your rental.

The villa is just a few minutes walk from the pool area via a stepped-stone lane decorated with Turkish tiles, antique stone-work and flowering pots. The interior is cool, spacious and equipped to a high standard with traditional ceramics, furnishings and Turkish carpets.

The resort has been designed to give the feeling of traditional Turkish architecture: cool, white buildings, stone walls, plants and colourful pots.

 

Within the resort, there is a small wooded area that provides privacy for the villas by separating the main pool area from the villas. This provides shade in which to drink tea, play back gammon or simply recline in hammocks. The complex, as well as our garden, is walled providing children the freedom to play in safety. Babysitting is available.

The resort has a small pool-side restaurant that serves all meals. Out of season, the communal Stone House Gallery (filled with Turkish antiques), is open on-site for food and for guests to relax by the open fire.

The resort itself is owned by a very welcoming Turkish family –the Kangotans. They are extremely hospitable, speak English and have an extensive network of contacts in Datça and can assist and advise you on any questions you may have.

Reception at the resort is open during the day, from May to October. You are welcome to use the safe deposit boxes, internet or fax machine available

The resort is approximately 20 minutes walk to the unspoilt, old town of Datça and nearby beaches.

There is an excellent local market each Saturday which has a wide choice of fresh food, ‘branded’ clothing, footwear and gifts. We frequently use the supermarket, Migros, which is a 10 minute walk. It stocks a wide range of household, beach and food and drink items. There is a taxi rank outside of Migros for the return journey (approx GBP 2).

There is an excellent mini-bus service that you can flag-down just 5 minutes walk away from the villa. It takes you to all points through out the region (and the whole of Turkey). You can explore: Eski Datça (old Datça), Palumbukutu (a beautiful pebble beach with snorkelling, swimming and restaurants), the ancient ruins of Knidos or the busy, tourist town of Marmaris.

Alternatively you can locally hire a car, motorcycle or boat/yachts for trips along the bays and around the penisula. 

Airports: there are direct flights from the UK to both Dalaman (2.5 hours drive) and Bodrum (2 hours on ferry boat). We can arrange transfers or you can use the excellent public transport system.

For flights from other countries, you may have to go to Istanbul (14 hrs by road to Datça) and take a connecting flight to Bodrum or Dalaman. Please contact us if you require more information on getting there and away:

Costs: in general costs are substantially lower than in Europe. Food and drink is very reasonable and of good quality.

Visas: please note that some nationalities do require visas for Turkey. For British passport-holders, it is possible to buy a visa on arrival – please keep GBP 10 in cash as it speeds up the process at the visa counter. You must obtain your visa just prior to entering immigration.

Weather: the summer tends to be hot and sunny, however, it is a dry heat and there are frequent cooling sea breezes. We understand that winter can cool and rainy. We have also been told that there is 30% more oxygen in the air, improving health: we are working on ways to prove this! The villa has both air-conditioning and heating including an open fireplace for the cooler months. The season runs from April/May through to October/November.

Food and drinks can be taken at the resort's restaurant or can be delivered to the villa. Babysitting can be arranged. The villa is serviced twice-weekly included in the rental. Includes fresh linen. The villa comprises 2 bedrooms in total; 1 double, 1 twin and 1 cots, 2 of the bedrooms with en-suite facilities. . This gives room for up to 6 people. Bed linen and towels are provided for your use.

The villa has 2 bathrooms and 3 WCs for your party's use. Air-conditioning keeps the villa cool. Central heating keeps you snug and warm.

The villa has television dvd, satellite/cable. The music system will play cassettes, cds, radio. If you need to keep in contact there is a telephone for incoming and outgoing calls.

There is room for 8 in the living room and 8 in the dining room. The open fire can be used to create a comfortable atmosphere. To prepare food you will find a cooker, an oven, a fridge, a freezer, a kettle. You will also find a washing machine, an iron and ironing board. The owner has also provided cutlery, crockery, glassware, cooking utensils.

Jackie says: "This villa was quiet, large, cool and beautifully furnished and equipped with two large on suite bathrooms with shower areas. Abundant towels are provided. The curtains in the bedrooms let in alot of light which could be a problem with young children. The villa complex is set in a wonderful safe walled garden area so children can roam around freely. The garden is good for relaxing in. The pool area is clean and spacious and the management team are friendly but not intrusive but certainly look after your every needs. Datca beach (the sand) is quite scrubby and not ideal for long days on the beach, but the sea is clean and lovely for swimming. There are restaurants on the beach itself and on the harbour and the beach and low key Turkish resort life is fantastic including the food. There are no hideous Karaoke bars. Although walks around the area from the villa are stunningly beautiful they are quite hard work and walking in to Datca actually takes at least 20 minutes and children might find this hard in the heat. To get the best of the area it is worth hiring a car. There are so many local beaches and coves and things to see, it is worth it. We would definitely return. "
