Located in the heart of Le Périgord Vert, not far from the attractive hill top town of Nontron, this 'maison forte' is set in an estate of 52 hectares of undulating woods and meadows. This impressive house has a long documented history dating back to the 12th century and was once a sanctuary for monks. Large rooms occupying three floors are positioned on either side of the magnificent central staircase which has 43 steps carved from a single block of white stone.

Within the lovely cobbled, walled courtyard in front of the house, stone pillars still remain of cloisters which once led to a chapel. Beind a stone wall is the beautiful heated swimming pool with splendid views of the surrounding countryside. Across a lane outside the main gates, a charming avenue of oak trees leads to a tranquil lake where the resident geese and ducks keep watch and a natural hot spring provides a perfect breeding ground for fish.

Strolling around the beautiful private estate, which has a somewhat spiritual atmosphere, one cannot help but absorb the peace and serenity surrounding this ancient and historic house.

second floor: Off a small landing are two suites of rooms, each of which comprises a sitting or games area and two large, well furnished twin bedrooms. Each suite has its own bathroom with bath, shower attachment, double basin and WC.

This region is rich in historic sites such as the famous Lascaux Caves, the stunning city of Sarlat and the fascinating bastide towns which run along the spectacular Dordogne river. There are many magnificent châteaux to be found throughout this beautiful area of France from Nontron in the north to Monbazillac in the far south. Périgueux, the capital town, has regular wonderful markets, excellent shopping and magnificent architecture. We feel sure you will enjoy the great charms of this area whilst staying in the comfort of one of our houses.

The house comprises 6 bedrooms in total; 2 double, 4 twin, 2 of the bedrooms with en-suite facilities. . This gives room for up to 12 people. Bed linen and towels are provided for your use.

The house has 8 bathrooms and 5 WCs for your party's use. Central heating keeps you snug and warm.

The house has television video, satellite/cable. The music system will play cds. If you need to keep in contact there is a telephone for incoming and outgoing calls and a fax machine.

There is room for 12 in the living room and 12 in the dining room. The open fire can be used to create a comfortable atmosphere. To prepare food you will find a cooker, an oven, a microwave, a fridge, a freezer, a kettle, a toaster. You will also find a dish washer, a washing machine, a clothes drier, an iron and ironing board. The owner has also provided cutlery, crockery, glassware, cooking utensils.
