Algorfa remains a typical Spanish farming village devoted to growing citrus fruits - oranges and lemons - and lies on the rich agriculture land on the Segura River plain. Curiously the municipal district divides the old town centre in two, as the left side of the road is part of Almoradí and the right side Algorfa.
It lies between the tourist costal area and the ‘real inland Spain’.
On the road to Benejuzar there is a graceful and unusual church (above)constructed at the beginning of the last century in the very popular Neo-Gothic style of the period. The church can be visited whilst visiting the beautiful green countryside in the fertile valley of the Segura River.
The village is centred around the village square and hosts bi-weekly markets on Tuesday and Sunday and although there are a few non Spanish bars and shops, most are owed and run by locals. There are a few traditional bars as well as a pizzeria/hamburger bar, butchers, fishmongers, banks, bakery, post office, language school, medical centre and other essential shops.
There is also a Public sports centre which is well maintained and it has a large swimming pool, tennis and squash courts and five a side pitches.
In summer this centre, around the pool area, becomes a social centre with families gathering to discuss the events of the day.
Algorfa has its annual fiesta held in July in honour of the Nuestra Señora la Virgen del Carmen.

The surrounding area has changed in recent years with the construction of the championship La Finca Golf Course.Presently an 18 hole course.
As always, there has been extensive housing development around the Course and on the outside of the village.
La Finca is fairly self contained when complete it will have a 4 star hotel, shops, restaurants and amenities. Currently, April 07, there are just a few banks, one supermarket, a wok buffet restaurant but this is changing week on week as units open.

All properties in this area are suitable for Golfers with those located in the village being slightly cheaper to rent than those at the Golf Course.
However, a car is necessary as it’s a bit far to walk to the course especially with clubs etc. If village based, then on your return from the course, the car can be left while you walk to the local bars and restaurants.
If you want the beach, then the excellent beaches at Guardamar and La Marina are a 15-20 min drive away along excellent roads.
The village hosts one disco so don’t expect lots of lively night life.

Shopping on the Costa Blanca is some of the best Spain has to offer. Coastal town streets are lined with shops selling everything from handbags to lace, and perfume to sun cream. Most items are competitively priced and a good buy in the area is locally produced wicker wear. For fun shopping, visit a lively market – stalls are filled with fresh fruit and fish, hand-painted ceramics and colourful rugs. For chain-stores and more sophisticated designer wear, visit Alicante’s large malls or browse along the esplanade and try the turron (nut nougat) a local delicacy.

Go… for nightlife

Costa Blanca is one of the Spain’s hottest nightspots and countless bars, discos, clubs and pubs draw partygoers all along the coast.

Our villas are set away from the liveliest resorts where people take a more relaxed approach to evening entertainment. Javes, Moraira and Altea have a good selection of bars and restaurants and a couple of discos. Try a traditional paella to the sound of Spanish guitar, or enjoy local tapas and watch a flamenco display. Or simpy stroll along the harbour and soak up a warm summer evening under the stars…
