Garrucha holiday apartment details
A delightful tropical setting
Situated in tropical gardens, the apartment is close to a lagoon at Vera Playa in the province of Almeria: the south-eastern coastal region of Andalucia, boasting the sunniest and warmest annual climate in Europe. Vera Playa is part of a, largely undiscovered, sun soaked coastal strip between two mountain ranges and the sea.
Local detail
This first floor, two bedroomed apartment, is located in a securely gated complex with two communal swimming pools and children's pools, set in gardens with walkways of orange and banana trees, bougainvillea, hibiscus, jasmine and palms. There is a bar/restaurant and supermarket on site, open during summer months, and supermarkets, banks, shops, gym, indoor pool, cycle hire, internet cafe, bars and restaurants only a few minutes walk away. The wide, sandy, blue-flag beach is only a 5 minute walk with beach bars - 'chiringuitos' open in season.
A water park and driving range are very close and there are four nearby golf courses: Cortijo Grande and Marina Golf at Mojacar, and Valle d'Este and Desert Springs near Vera. You will need your handicap certificate for some of these.
A regular air-conditioned bus service runs along the coast, stopping 70 metres from the complex.
There is a book in the apartment containing further details of local attractions including Mini Hollywood ( Lawrence of Arabia and many spaghetti westerns were filmed here), caves, castle, scuba diving, go karting and mountain villages catering for a full variety of tastes.

Whether you want to take a 20 minute walk along the sea front with its marble balustraded promenade, or a 5 minute car journey, Garrucha is definitely the place to visit. With three ports: leisure, commerce and fishing, it is a lovely, relaxing Spanish seaside town. There is a new playground on the seafront for small children and basket ball/football facilities on the beach for older ones. It has a bustling market every Friday where you can buy your holiday gifts as well as your fruit and vegetables. Fishermen sell their catch at the harbourside fish market every evening and nets are laid out to dry in the sun. You can sit in one of the many bars and restaurants having a drink and tapas, or sampling the fish and seafood. For the meat lovers there is plenty of steak.... Argentinian or Mexican? Although the Spanish speaker is appreciated, you will find that English is understood in most places.
Vera
This attractive, small Spanish town is being carefully restored in the old Spanish tradition and has a beautiful main square with magnificent church, fountain, cafe, and town hall. There are attractive narrow streets and a range of shops. On the outskirts a bull ring dominates the southern approach and bull fights are still staged here although publicity is somewhat low key. Tours are also available.
Mojacar
Mojacar Playa is a lively beach venue with beach bars and restaurants always busy in summer.
Mojacar Pueblo, a short bus journey or a steep walk inland, is an attractive old white village perched on top of the hill with narrow pedestrian streets, a few bars, restaurants and shops...and panoramic views of the surrounding landscape and sea.
Villaricos
A small fishing village to the east of Vera Playa is on the edge of the old silver mining area and the coast becomes rocky here. It has an attractive promenade with children's playground and a series of bars and restaurants, both Spanish and English, and a lovely little church.
National Parks
To the south west, towards Almeria, the National Park of Cabo de Gata takes in some wild mountain and coastal areas teeming with wild life ... from birds of prey to flamingos.
To the east the National Park of Los Velez contains beautiful mountain villages such as Velez Blanco with its magnificent castle and caves with ancient paintings such Los Letreros.
Almeria
The modern city and port have a full range of international shops, restaurants and cafes along tree lined streets. You can catch the ferry here to Morocco if you are in a travelling mood or you can visit the old moorish town and fort if you are bent on sightseeing.
Granada
This ancient and beautiful city, set in snow capped mountains, is a 2 to 3 hour drive from the apartment along motorways with spectacular scenery. The Alhambra and the Generalife gardens are legendary, with their moorish architecture and graceful courtyards and fountains; although it is a good idea to book the half day tours on the internet in advance.

Richard says: "Visited this wonderful appartment with my girlfriend and we were thrilled with it. Everything we needed for a relaxing holiday in one stunning location. Really good local amenities in short strolling distance. Secluded roof terrace that got sun all day long!
The Appartment itself was so well equipped. There was a really detailed folder provided by the owners with everything we needed to know - from how the microwave and satalite TV worked, to which dishes to try at the local restaurants.
Am definately going back again."
