East of Malaga - quiet, beautiful, unspoilt Spain. Axarquia - it is quite unique. No concrete jungles, no british bars lining the streets, no larger louts. If you enjoy peace and quiet and plenty to see and do then Caleta is for you. Spain at its best. 

La Caleta de Velez is the mid-coastal point of the Axarquia. It is a pretty fishing village (some call it a miniscule town) only 30 kilometres from Malaga with superb beaches, an impressive marina, a large and colourful Saturday morning street market and the 18-hole Baviera golf course.

Caleta means bay in Spanish and the name of this town literally means The Bay of Velez-Malaga. Velez-Malaga, the historic capital of the area with a traditional town centre, theatre, central hospital and water park plus the large El Ingenio shopping mall, is just a kilometre away. Caleta is unique in having a bustling village atmosphere with all amenities on hand plus it is a short stroll along the attractive promenade, lined with palm trees and nesting green parrots, to the lively adjacent resort of Torre del Mar, and a two minute drive to the Mediterranean Motorway which connects east to west and north to south.

The vibrant fish market and harbour are attractive and important features of Caleta, which is the primary fishing harbour and market of the Malaga Province. A total of 397 species of fish and 102 species of seafood make up the sea life eaten in this part of the world, although most of these species are concentrated in about ten different types of fish. Sardines, anchovies, squid, octopus, red bream and mackerel are some of these fish and the Alborán Sea is full of them.

The Alborán Sea is the passage of water between the Atlantic and the Mediterranean which renovates itself every hundred years or so. It brings a rich sea life to the bay of Caleta which has the depths needed to support the spiral of sea life that produces the type of fish we like to eat in large quantities. The area is rich in plankton, due to the sun that shines year round, and this is what the fish feed and reproduce on. The different temperatures of the different waters that flow into the Alborán Sea from both sides make for a rich marine flora in the region, giving the fish that are caught here a special flavour that is missing from the same fish caught in other parts of the world.

We recommend you hire a car as there are so many places to visit. You can find things to do on the doorstep or you can travel very little distance for a huge choice of interesting things to see and do. Bars and shops are all local and Torre del Mar has even more. Nerja, famous but now hugely developed, is easily accessible as are the white washed villages of the mountains. 

Im a really nice house. I am not situated on a holiday complex but within a small, quiet (July and August do get busy) residential community and I am in the very best position of all the properties here. My owners take great pride in me and although I am not huge Im not small and I have generously sized rooms (an unusual feature in spanish property). Im not new but I am in good condition. I have been newly and very tastefully furnished and Ive just been painted outside and am looking at my very best.

My main bedroom is very roomy with a large built in wardrobe, partly shelved, en-suite bathroom with shower over the bath and bougainvillea covered south facing balcony. My 2nd bedroom has access onto the front balcony and also has a large built in wardrobe with shelving and my 3rd bedroom has a good sized built in wardrobe with shelving with an outlook over the front balcony. There is a family bathroom with shower over the bath and downstairs I have a shower room. All my beds are of good quality and offer great comfort. The bedrooms and the lounge/dining room have ceiling fans for added comfort, although I do benefit from a lovely and most welcome breeze off the sea which cools the whole house.

The garden and pools are straight out of my downstairs terrace gate and are well maintained and bright with flowers, regularly mowed lawns and neatly trimmed hedges.

For those of you who dont want to lie in the sun, swim, eat, drink and be merry, my Senor and Senora have put a map of Andalucia in the hallway, along with about 36 lovely photographs of places of interest you could visit.

As my owners are aware that many of you will arrive late a generous complimentary Welcome Pack of necessary basics, plus a little extra, to see you through your first night/morning will be waiting for you.

Guests to supply own beach towels. The pools generally open April and close early November - depending when the school holidays fall. The tennis court was completely refurbished last year to a high standard.

The house comprises 3 bedrooms in total; 1 double, 2 twin, 1 of the bedrooms with en-suite facilities. . This gives room for up to 6 people. Bed linen and towels are provided for your use.

There is room for 6 in the living room and 6 in the dining room. To prepare food you will find a cooker, an oven, a microwave, a fridge, a freezer, a kettle, a toaster. You will also find a dish washer, a washing machine, a clothes drier, an iron and ironing board. The owner has also provided cutlery, crockery, glassware, cooking utensils.

The house is in a quiet area but you may hear occasional noise. It has access to a shared swimming pool, a south facing garden, a south facing patio area, a south facing balcony, sea views, a tennis court. If you are driving there is private parking and a garage with the outside areas of the house having external lighting.

The house is right beside swimming, tennis.

Close to the house you will find a beach, sailing, water skiing, boat hire, wind surfing, fishing, walking, cycling, golf, a theatre/cinema, shopping areas, a restaurant, a food shop.

Within easy reach of the house you will find flying, horse riding.
