This enchanting accommodation is tucked away in the peaceful traditional village of Milatos. Named after the famous Greek writer who used to live there, Lily’s house has been sensitively renovated to retain its charm and atmosphere. It is a peaceful and quiet place tucked away behind a small church. The house has 3 large rooms, a kitchen, 2 bathrooms and is full of antique Cretan furniture. This unusual space has retained many of it's traditional features including romantic wooden (mezzanine style) sleeping areas, large stone arches and a secluded arched courtyard. The ceilings have huge original olive wood beams.
 

The house consists of 2 very large open plan living areas (with pretty mezzanine sleeping area’s above) separated by the kitchen and another large bedroom. Both of these area have tables, including a large dining table, Cretan day beds, fire places, hammock chairs and other relaxing nooks to read and unwind. There is a huge traditional Cretan oven which is now quite a rarity. The beautiful bouganvilla covered courtyard is accessible from the bedroom and one of the large living rooms. There is also a large garden with a big palm tree for shade. This is a stunning place to eat breakfast over looking the olive groves or relax in the hammock with a book.

NOTE: There some stone steps and lots of wooden steps leading up to the mezzanine areas so caution is recommended! This may make Lily’s house unsuitable for young children.

 

Milatos (epano) has a kafeneon (traditional café) and a small shop. Although there is a taverna in the village it's only a 15 min walk to Milatos beach, (pebbly) another small village with about 10 taverna’s mostly next to sea with a choice of freshly caught fish and local dishes. Also there is a rental shop, a few small supermarkets, a tourist shop and the harbour. If you desire a beach with sand, they are only a short drive away including Sissi, Plaka and the pretty Elouda. I love to kayak around the beautiful ruins of the spinalonga island. Kayaks can be rented from Plaka

Milatos cave is an interesting place to visit and a pretty walk. Its best to drive up the hill about 5 mins, (see signs from the village) and then take the path which is clearly marked. There is also a stunning walk around the headland. Turn right at the sea and follow the track till the little church, the path follows behind.
Bikes can be hired from sissi and there are many lovely quiet roads for cycling as long as you don’t mind some hills!
The Lassithi Plateau is a famous area in Crete, renowned for its beauty and the home of the Dikteon cave, the supposed birth place of Zeus. There are many walking opportunities in this area. The steep winding road leading to the Lassithi plateau leaves from nearby town Neapoli.
I recommend kayaking around the beautiful ruins of the spinalonga island. Kayaks can be rented from Plaka. Close to Elounda (approx 35min drive)

 

The 2 bathrooms are well equipped, tiled, have showers and a washing machine. The house is equipped with basic kitchen utensils, a small oven, fridge, kettle, toaster, crockery and cutlery. Bed linen and towels provided. There is a small selection of fiction books and some of local interest. The garden has a hammock and is a lovely place to relax with views of the gorge behind. There is also 2 chairs and a table for the garden although more chairs can be brought from the house. There are 2 more hammock chairs around the house and the courtyard has furniture and outside lighting. There is a basic bbq.

The village house comprises 3 bedrooms in total; 3 double, 2 of the bedrooms with en-suite facilities. The property also has 1 single sofa bed located in the Under mezzanine area. This gives room for up to 6 people. Bed linen and towels are provided for your use.

There is room for 6 in the living room and 6 in the dining room. The open fire can be used to create a comfortable atmosphere. To prepare food you will find a cooker, an oven, a fridge, a freezer, a kettle, a toaster. You will also find a washing machine, an iron and ironing board. The owner has also provided cutlery, crockery, glassware, cooking utensils.
